    NV4500 & what gears?

    You want the 95 and newer models. They have a 5.61 1st gear and a 3.04 2nd gear. Earlier versions had 6.34 1st and 3.44 2nd. I have a 4500 in my 2wd Burb turbo diesel with 3.73 gears and 265/75r16 tires. I don't even use 1st gear unless I'm pulling a trailer. I'd thing a 410 ratio would be good...

    NV4500/NP205 Rebuild First Impression

Mine is same way. Very noisy just in neutral. I have driven it about 30,000 miles. Unknown condition and mileage on transmission before I bought it.

    Speedo Driven Gear Issue

U need to calculate your tire height with it "loaded" on your truck. Most tires have about 3% less height than the spec measurements. A typical 35×12.50R15 tire is about 33.5" tall when installed on a truck. Your tire is probably around 33.8" in height.

    Left Turn Signal Won't Flash.

You have a ground problem. Bad bulb and or socket connection is common. There is a ground wire behind the taillamps. This is a common problem also.

6.2 For A Daily Driver? What Are The Downsides?

I have an 89 Burb 3/4-ton 2wd that I drive daily. It has a turbo and a NV4500 5 speed trans. I'm getting 19-20 mpg. They are slugs in stock form.

What back spacing or offset do I need

I had 36" Swampers on a previous truck I had. They were 14.50 wide. I had them on a 12" wide wheel with 4" back spacing. I had 2.5" fender flares on it. With a wide base tire you will need about 8" lift and notch frt fenders at the bottom.

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

Had a chance to check older catalogs at work today. There is no listing for an 8.5" 10-bolt in the Pontiac or Buick early model catalog prior to 1973 for an A-body car.

Not sure. I'll have to check at work. Have manuals for Pontiac and Buick.

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

As per GM parts catalog and some other books I have they started putting the 8.5 in late 72 Chevelle's and Monte's as they were phasing out the 8.2. Camaro's started running 8.5 in 71. I have a parts manual that was published in October 1970 and there is no listing of it. It is in my newer...

    New K30 CUCV member

I have a lifted CUCV with 35's on it. You will need a 6" lift spring for the front. On the rear I installed the shackle flip kit from off road design. My truck had a spacer on top of the spring pack for a overload spring. I put it under the spring pack. It's about 1". Top speed with the diesel...

    quick ratio steering box

I put one in my 2wd Suburban. I replaced a leaking/loose rebuilt one with about 20k on it. It is definitely tighter than the box I replaced. Steering response is better also.

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

Took a look at covers and they do have same size bolt patterns. So the cover isn't really an indication of what rear you have.

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

Quick check you can do is measure pinion gear nut. 8.2 should be 1 1/8". 8.5 is 1 1/4". Also the ring gear bolts on a 8.2 take a 3/8 socket. On a 8.5 the bolts are 3/4" and are left hand threaded.

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

I don't remember seeing a cover with notches before. I do know the gasket part # is the same as the rear axle cover in a Squarebody. I did look in some of my parts books and the 8.5 is only listed for a late model 72. I'll try to dig around my inventory to compare the 2 covers. I think they are...

WTB 8.5 rearend out of 1971-72 GM A body

You'll have better luck going with a 12-bolt. In the 30 years I've been working on cars/trucks, I only ever saw 1 8.5 in that generation and it was in a 70-72 Monte.

Can I run 35s on the street with this setup?

Biggest tire you can safely use on the factory style 6.5" wide wheels is a 285/75R16. You will need at least an 8" wide wheel to run a 12" wide 35" tall tire. A 285/75R16 would be your largest option in my opinion if you are using the factory narrow wheels.

I apply the parking brake or adjust the brake shoes out to apply some resistance to load the gear set when checking patterns.

    Rear Wheel is Stuck !!

Here in PA this is a common problem with trucks that sat to long. I loosen the lug nuts and then back it out of the garage and then stab the brakes really hard. If that doesn't work, then I use the 10lb sledge.
