    Shade-Tree tranny part 2

Yeah, he checked the "dome", popped it open tinkered with it, drove it around the corner, came back and said "nope, that's not it", then he popped that vac pod off and pulled something out of it and grabbed another of whatever it was and put it in, and locked it back up, took it for a drive...

    Shade-Tree tranny part 2

WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!! Got my tranny in a runnin', had a little snag though. It wasn't shifting at all, and had to take it to the guy who re-built it. I could shift it manually, but that's why I have an automatic! LOL He had to replace the governer I think. He pulled that vacuum doo-hickey off...

    Order Sheet Tranny Question

Definately! I've always heard good things about the durability, and universal applications for th350's, (great for jeeps and such). I have first hand testimony on the strength of these tranny's. Glad to have it re-built, and it lasting me another 400k.. my future children's children will still...

    Order Sheet Tranny Question

Thanks... we seriously haven't had a lick of trouble with that tranny in the 22 years we've had the truck, until just a few weeks ago when it just stopped working altogether. The tranny itself had to have at least 400k miles on her... so not a bad haul. The dude that re-build my tranny...

    Order Sheet Tranny Question

Yeah, all the VIN#'s do match, so I guess that old mechanic stands corrected. Very interesting, I'm wondering why someone would swap all that out. My dad bought the truck from a dealership back in 1989, and it was only 5 years old with 70k on it when he brought it home.

    Order Sheet Tranny Question

I was under my hood today and was looking at the build tag on my wheel well. I noticed that it said 4 speed auto trans. Is that three forward plus one reverse, or did my truck originally come with an O/D transmission that the P.O. swapped for a th350? The gear selector does read "P R N D...

    Uh-oh!!

Yeah.. that IS a bummer you live so far away. Although, it wasn't making these hellacious clunking noises... but it was sounding like.. i guess the the best way I can explain it is.. a dry bearing rubbing.. only in 1st gear though, then it would shift out into second and then run fine...

    Shade-Tree U-Joint Replacement

Hey wagonman... the good news is: the carb is running strong, but the bad news is: I can't move anywhere.. the transmission WAS the problem. It cunked out on me a few hours after I replaced my u-joints. Bummer huh? I'm gonna look into it tomorrow.. I know the fluid was a bit low, but ran out...

    Shade-Tree U-Joint Replacement

last ones slapped it back in we greased the front u-joints, but the rear one, didn't give us enough space for the grease gun head we had. So my dad had one of these little needles that allowed us to get in there and push into the zerk, and grease it, very handy you can see...
