    UPDATE: i was able to keep the engine running by repeatedly pumping the throttle. Engine did not run smoothly, of course. But it did continue to run. What would this tend to indicate?

    Not sure i want to do this due to safety reasons. Also, i can't hook up a remote starter properly(not enough space) and i don't have a helper. But the bowl is full because each time it stalls i can see fuel squirting in when i move the accelerator arm.

    UPDATE: Ok, i got Dayco 15445 (Gates equivalent 7445) to work. i'm not saying these are the correct part# because both Dayco and Gates catalogs both list a different belt, but these do work.

    The engine is an 86 4.3 v-6 BUT i'm using the original P/S pump to the truck which is an 83. So the pulleys on the engine are the 86 vortech-ish setup with the ribbed belt for alternator. But i compared pulleys from my 305 that i replaced and pulleys look the same diameter as the 86.

    The engine i have now originally came out of a 86 c-10 that is/was being parted out. i'm pretty sure you can interchange mounts with v-8 small blocks, i'm just speculating that the factory reversed them on 6's due to vibration differences between the two engines. The 6 kinda shakes...

    The fuel pump for v-6's are upside down and as such don't have the vent hole on top. Also the pump to carb line will be different than an 8. Now, a v-8 pump could probably be used and vice versa if you have the space for it. But check the pushrod lengths. they might also be different...
