    If you're just using the mechanical pump to supply/feed the sump then you don't need a high flow pump. ( i wouldn't think so, at least?) A stock pump that puts out 2-4lbs of pressure should be good enough?

    i'm sorry i just don't have time to really get into it on this subject. However, i did re-read your original post and it appears you have 4X4? (which is a problem as far as mpg....) AND you already have a 4.3 v-6 ----and you're getting 12-14 mpg. i will hopefully have more time to discuss...

    i know this doesn't answer your question, but someone took a tpi manifold (which is basically a tunnel ram) and put a carburetor on top of it! And it ran. Can't find a pic of it right now though.

    a stock iron quadrajet manifold for SMALL BLOCK weighs 44 lbs. So yeah, i'm guessing the 454 intake is probably pretty heavy.

    My only concern with doing it that way is would regulating it down to 6lbs (or whatever max the quadrajet needs) would this strain the pump?

    Both walkers y pipes i got----both for v-8 small block and 4.3 v-6 may have been a little tight, but generally worked well. You may have to drill out the flange bolts a little bigger. Don't have the part #'s offhand.

    i'm with yev; You need a heat shield irregardless. So try one and it may cure the problem completely and you won't need a starter so soon. i'm using the Taylor wrap, part #2540 with very good results---i had the same symptoms and the wrap corrected all that.

    Yeah, i need a new 4.3 and 4.3blocks with the fuel pump provision are not easy to find; As you may know GM only put it in trucks with carbs for 2 years. The next 28 years it was fuel injected.
