But if the starter was bad, wouldn't you still hear a click from the solenoid?

    No CRANK after rain......

No it's ok----i AM a dumb ass as you'll see in a minute: HOLIDAY UPDATE: Since i'm on long holiday weekend, i can get whole-hog into it. 1) First i want to clarify about the distributor. Donald suggested something about the distributor. But since this is a crank problem, not a start or run...

    No CRANK after rain......

No CRANK. It will start after everything dries up. So, i don't think it's the distributor.

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

i should add that they were stock-ish 305's and 350's. So, is higher ZDDP even needed with those engines? Stock cams, stock valve spring pressures.....

Zinc, Engine oil and flat cams

Here are my thoughts. And i'm NOT saying high ZDDP levels are even needed with stock/stock cam valve springs? Who knows? But to be safe, here's what i did: (Note: All my RUNNING cars have roller lifters, so now i just use Mobil 1 synthetic. Yes, i've joined the 21st century. You should...

Need a direct fit radiator, no mods to make fit 87 GMC V2500 5.7, 350 Auto trans

i got a champion as well. Don't have the part # off hand, but it's the standard 2-row. No, it did not exactly fit the mounts as you can see: Since the radiator is locked in position and not moving i'm not messing with it for now. Other than the mount issue, the radiator has been just great.

    SAE or synthetic

i "heard" that if you have stock-ish valve springs AND still running flat lifters, then you don't "need" any zddp additives. Just to be safe though, when i had the 350 and 305 (both with flat lifters and stock cams etc.) i used: https://www.redlineoil.com/10w30-motor-oil They put 1200 ppm...

Cranks good, no start / hard start engine cold or warm:

i'm sorry to write a book about this, but i feel this is the only way we'll solve it. Background: quadrajet HEI ignition Stock-ish cam---like 184/195 @ .50"---- so decent vacuum etc. 1) Prior to the no start/difficult to start problem, the engine would start cold within 1 crankshaft revolution...

Any good hacks/upgrades you've come up with for our trucks

P.S. These brands look to have the identical starter as the delco, which leads me to believe that they are all made in the same factory in China, and they'll just put different stickers on depending on which brand it's going to be? Yes, the Delco is M.I.C. as i just checked....:( Proform #...

Any good hacks/upgrades you've come up with for our trucks

The starter is AC Delco part # 3371002. which cross references to a 1999 c-1500 pickup, but i assume Suburban, Tahoe, vans also use the same part#? Also, i "heard" that the even later Astro starters have even more torque----cos remember, the 4.3 v-6 was equipped in vans all the way up to...

Any good hacks/upgrades you've come up with for our trucks

$147 including bolts, + profuse amount of cussing while removing the old one. However, no cussing when installing the new one----easy to install.

Any good hacks/upgrades you've come up with for our trucks

i recently, likely, roasted my starter----see my upcoming posts as to why. So, i figured now would be a good time to try the mini-starter: i found a part # that would work: AC Delco part # 3371002. Much smaller/lighter than the original style starters. More torque due to the gear...

    Narrowed control arms

    1) i think this company has them: http://www.fatmanfab.com/ About 1.5" narrower? You'll have to search around in there or call them because i don't have time to provide direct links. 2) He's lengthening rather than shortening, but the concept is the same. 3) i wondering if S-10/G body arms...

What non 73/87 parts have you swapped into your squarebody?

Astro(safari) aluminum wheels. i upgraded to michelins and didn't want to run steel rims anymore. This is a fairly cheap way at the salvage yard to get into aluminum rims. 85-2002 was 5X5 lug 2003 on up was 6 lug and i think 16" rims.

    Vapor Lock issue?

i think you can do this (may have to switch to a 2 port pump though). But again, we'll have to wait until the weekend until i can really get into this.....if at all. Just too busy. i think the stock steel factory line behind the alternator and in front of the engine works ok at keeping the...

Hotter outdoors temps cause her to buck and cut out.

What type of fuel pump you got? The first question i would ask is that, is there a return line in the system? Being that it's a 77, there may not be. But, if not, they are fairly straightforward to put in.
