    Longtube Header Install Issue...

I've thrown quite a bit of money at my truck so far why not a little more haha. This is one I'm looking at http://www.jegs.com/i/Lokar/625/XED-5001/10002/-1 Or...

    Longtube Header Install Issue...

That's a transmission dipstick will that work with oil? I was looking at a lokar one from jegs. It is pricey as well and has a black hook and black top so it would compliment the motor well. As far as bending I got frustrated and quit before I made a mistake. I will try some slight bending...

    Longtube Header Install Issue...

Ah then they should be similar. See how the #6 tube is routed and the #8 goes straight down? The tube is hitting on the #6 and it doesn't line up quite right. Also I'm worried about the tube being so close the headers with all the heat.

    Longtube Header Install Issue...

what type of headers are those? The hookers have a closer tube between 8 and 6. Thank you I haven't seen many white motors out there so figured it would look good.

    Longtube Header Install Issue...

My motor is white with black/red accents see attached photo. Well my tube is having issues around the #6 cylinder. I was looking at some ones on Jegs/Summit but if I can get away with using the stock one I would like to go that route. My problem with bending the stock tube is pinching it shit...

    Longtube Header Install Issue...

I got a set of Hooker 2454 long tube headers for my 1987 Silverado. I have the motor out of the truck, been out since August of last year, and I am at the point of putting the final parts on to reinstall back into the truck. I had the dipstick installed and noticed that as I went to put the...

    Balancer install problem...

I was just reading that article actually. But I ran downstairs and looked at the crank and I do have a groove or a catch about a 1/4 from the end of the snout that would interact with the one in the balancer. I bet I've been breaking my tools by trying to push the balancer farther than what...

    Balancer install problem...

There is a groove about 1/4in down on the balancer on the crankshaft side. Maybe that's the mark for it to stop at.

    Balancer install problem...

Is that on all small blocks? Or pre 1987? I tried going back and looking at all my photos that I've taken and I cannot tell how big the gap actually is between it and the timing cover. It's pretty close from what I can see. Although I know the balancer doesn't fully go under the timing pointer...

    Balancer install problem...

Mine would go almost 3/4 of the way on and it would get difficult to turn and would break the tools off. I assumed that it would bottom out on the crank sprocket.

    Balancer install problem...

The rubber is questionable for 28 years... That's what I was thinking just maybe my luck to get one that was bad. With the videos I have watched the rod that threads into the crank turns till it is bottomed out then they stop the crank from turning and use the thrust bearing to turn it on...

    Balancer install problem...

Well no one stress I was actually able to get the bolt backed out with a screw driver. But I am still baffled as to why the 2 tools broke.

    Balancer install problem...

Nothing I assume. I had no known issues with it before I started pulling things off. I pulled it over to replace the timing cover. The engine has 125,000 miles and from what I've read they recommend replacing them at 100,000 miles. Other than that it's rusty and I really didn't want to spend...

    Balancer install problem...

That's I was going to attempt to reinstall the old one to verify its the new balancer and not the crank snout. I'm wondering too if it's clearing the first woodruf key and not the second one.

    Balancer install problem...

I am leery about an easy out I keep reading and the guy i work next tell me they break easily. He did mention though his experience he didn't have a good angle drilling his bolt. My motor is on the stand so I can probably get a more precise angle for drilling. I forgot about left handed drill...

    Balancer install problem...

As the title states there's a problem with trying to install my harmonic balancer. While freshening up the motor with new seals, gaskets and paint I figured why not replace the balancer. It has 120k miles probably about time any way right? Well now I have broken 2 install tools. One rented...

    Stock replacement oil pan

I bought a stock replacement oil pan off a guy locally for my build and thought it would work. It is from summit and has never been installed. I did research before I bought but the rear of the pan is not wide enough for my block plus the bolts do not line up either. There was no way to know...

    Balancer/timing cover issues

while doing the carb swap I decided to pull the heads and spruce the motor up appearance wise. I have painted the block and heads white and replacing the covers with new fresh black covers. Instead of wire wheeling that old rusty stock timing cover I figured why not buy a new one. $15 at...

Mechanical or electric fuel pump for carb??

That's what I am thinking. Since I already have it set up just need to snip and solder a few wires. I do not feel like spending the $40-60 on a mechanical pump. Not to mention save some $$$ on extra fuel lines to run to the pump.

Mechanical or electric fuel pump for carb??

I should've thought about that. But I am uneasy of purchasing a mechanical pump if in lou of things it doesn't produce enough suction. I've read on other forums especially the guys on the camaro sites have had no issues with a mechanical pump. I just was curious since this is on a truck...

tbi to carb swap trouble !!

Did you change out your springs? I was always under the impression tbi swirl port heads couldn't handle much lift with stock equipment.

Mechanical or electric fuel pump for carb??

The truck is an '87 so it's factory electric pumps on both tanks with a selector valve and switch inside the cab. The block just had a plate over the pump spot. I pulled the plate off and saw oil and thought what the heck? But by my surprise I had a hole for a pushrod for a mechanical pump...

Mechanical or electric fuel pump for carb??

I might still keep the electrics just because but it could change. Well keep an eye for my write up I should be done with it soon. Once I figure this fuel issue and get the heads back from the machine shop I'll be putting everything back together and on the truck.
