    A/C pancake compressor leaking

It is common for those to leak where the case seals to the steel band. Although I have replaced a lot of front seals on the older 6 piston design, never messed with one of those due to the fact they don't seem to be very durable. Always replaced the unit.

    85 k1500 suburban.

First check power at starter then power on solenoid terminal with key in start position. If both are good get another starter. If not there is a power supply issue. Need to go upstream and locate where the power stops.

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

You just made confirmed my case for using a shunt. Very easy to exceed 10 amps. Will add a majority of draws I have seen were caused by aftermarket items, such as alarms, remote start, radios, amps, ect.

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

Can monitor electric flow while turning items on and off. A MM on amps works similar except you're not limited to 10 amps or whatever the internal fuse is. Although it probably doesn't apply here, later model vehicles have draws until the systems go to sleep. Some of those have rather high...

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

Should show something? It's late, tomorrow will check a couple vehicles like you have that hooked up. Using a shunt many vehicles will show a small MA draw. Without it should show a large one...... provided the draw is still present. Will get back in the morning.

    87 TBI 350

If idle is smooth likely EGR is ok. How do you know the exhaust isn't plugged? A vacuum gauge can be used for that diagnosis. Does the CEL momentarily illuminate with a key on cycle?

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

Know a test light is a crude test and would be a significant draw. Tossed that out because most people have one and simple is sometimes best, easiest. OP is doing something wrong [or a bad meter] if in series on the amp or milli amp scale shows nothing. May need to check meter internal...

    87 TBI 350

Not a lot of information to go on. Codes? General tune up condition? EGR function? Plugged exhaust? vacuum reading at idle and under load.

Help finding a short, Who's good at ELECTRICAL???

Try using a test light in series with either battery cable. If it lights =draw. Another way is amp scale on MM in series, however if draw exceeds internal MM fuse it will blow. 3rd way is with a shunt. But usually, one if the above methods should turn up something. Others will come along with...

How do I test mechanical fuel pump

yes, but to be safe disable spark. Stock pressure should work around 5-7 psi.

Rims won't fit on rear with drums.

Working at a shop that sells tires we see wheel interference problems almost daily. Know the horse has left the barnyard but always check fit first. Modern production tries to consolidate part numbers. Is it possible drum is not the same as OEM? Although not recommended spacers may be the only...

    Radiator recommendations for 6.6l 400

An aluminum core replacement will work fine provided the fan, clutch, and shroud are intact, correct and working. Don't get why people remove the stat. Coolant will move too fast for heat transfer. Even most race cars use a stat or restrictor. Install a 180 or 190 high quality stat. Economy...

    Help with diagnosis and repair

If automatic, power braking many times will help with diagnosis. Load engine to 1/8th - 1/4 throttle, watch for bubbles in radiator. In the shop we use a pressure tester and watch for pressure increase. Can't give exact numbers it's one of those experience tests but I have seen 5 psi increase in...

    2 post shop lift

Think I have seen those in shops that work on heavier duty trucks. Another one is rail hoist. One in ground cylinder, beams running length wise. Designed for vehicles with solid axles both ends. Probably made for 40's cars.

    2 post shop lift

I just tossed it out, many don't know the brand. Purchased a 15k when I had my own business. A little bit of an overkill for home use. Back then cost was 10k probably a lot more today.

    2 post shop lift

A shop I worked at 15 years ago had 2 post inground hydraulic hoists. Used a gear arrangement that kept them timed side to side. Similar to 2 post above ground other than not having a big vertical beam in the way. They were completely worn out and totally dangerous, no arm locks. Hydraulics...

    engine performance Issues,

Yes, go back and double check tune-up, especially firing order. Exhaust leak can cause popping into exhaust, but you said it runs poor. Could be a valve problem, bad distributor cap, vacuum leak, base tune up, ect. Check vacuum is it steady? What is the reading?

    2 post shop lift

The old single post got in the way for some undercar work and didn't work well if a transfer case was hanging down. 4 post are good for that but the added height of the rails makes removing motors an almost chain fall affair. The best all round is 2 post. Yes, have to be more deliberate with...

    2 post shop lift

2 post with crew cab will work. Hoist needs to be high quality. We raise them all day on a Bend Pak. For added stability quite often we add a stand to the rear. Just be sure to remove it before lowering the truck. Have seen that done, it usually isn't pretty. A 4 post will also work but to...

    Help locating shift indicator part

tried, did find another one but they want $130. That's just nuts. Think I would try soldering on a cable on it and use a small crimp tube for the loop. May be try Ace hdwr for a crimp piece of some sort. Looks like a fairly easy piece for someone to reproduce. LMC has the assembly for $30...
