Oil pressure sender switch and coolant sender what type of thread sealant to use since your not supposed to use Teflon so it can ground correctly

Liquid teflon never hurts if used in the correct places and not over applied. One thing to point out, in an ideal world those fittings may be fine without additional sealers. Problem is we are dealing with mostly used parts and not clean threads. I have been burned too many times not to add a...

    Dual Tanks Fuel switch delete

Done on larger [higher] over the road trucks. Our company used low profile trucks. Factory would not install dual tanks like that because the possibility of damage and fuel spill.

Finding smog pump 1985 Chevy K20

Using early manifolds lower ac bracket is a problem. This truck has those on it when I bought it. They can be made to work but requires modifications. Using an early 6 bolt manifold on the right side requires an adapter plate for the 7-bolt head. Mine always leaked, poor design. You will also...

    HEI module dwell time.

Those Sun machines were state of the art and expensive. Cost 8k in the late 70's. An 1115 came up for sale close to me cheap, bought it. Needed an infrared board and a lead. They take up a lot of real estate in the garage but worth it if working on points vehicles and carburetors.

    HEI module dwell time.

Basically same as valve float. Inability to control opening and closing. Solving point float sounds easy, increase closing spring tension. Problem with that is increased rubbing block wear and wear to advance pin, especially on Fords. A friend had a Sun distributor machine. Was educational...

    Collapsed upper radiator hose

Assume this has a coolant recovery tank. Yes, a cap can cause it. However, if the overflow tank or hose is plugged that may also do it.

Finding smog pump 1985 Chevy K20

Be sure to check the one-way valves mounted on the air pump tubes. If those go bad exhaust will burn up or melt other items in the system.

    Frame swap

Did a frame swap on an 81 gas to an 85 diesel. Had to change brackets for springs and emergency brake among other minor changes. Really nothing to involved. If needed, making holes in frame material is much easier with a reamer.

Probably originated after the later body style was introduced. Comparing the 2 they are squarer.

    First time "real" painting.

True, can only speak about PPG DP epoxy has a 7 day recoat. After that scuff and another coat of DP. If I needed the time, sprayed a surfacer over the DP otherwise color or sealer within 7 days. Surfacer does not have a recoat limit. A good thing about DP is mud can be spread directly over it.

    Electric Choke Issues

Too tight, too much wind up of the thermostat bi-metalic spring. Some of the stats are indexed. If yours isn't indexed back it off until the choke plate opens slightly, then go the other direction until plate just closes. Be sure to do this with the throttle open slightly or the fast idle cam...

    First time "real" painting.

Good luck with the project. I did body and paint for 20 years. Almost everything that could go bad I experienced at one time or another. Bugs crawling across a hood in the clear, drips, runs, dirt, water and the big one lifting. Follow instructions to the letter. Use proper material and allow...

    Electric Choke Issues

Sounds like choke thermostat is either too tight or choke pull-off is bad or misadjusted. Is fast idle adjusted? Some Q jets have a secondary choke pull-off. if that's the case both pull-offs would need adjusted. Choke plate should be closed when cold. Within a couple seconds the pull-off...

    A little help deciding

If the wiring is as bad as you describe e bay has several used wiring harnesses listed. They are not universal covering many years like sellers have them listed. If one could be found close to same year and options, might be the better/cheaper option. Although wiring appears to be very...

    Vaccum issue

There is a switch on top of parking brake assembly and a proportioning valve built into the brake lines. Valve should be on the front crossmember somewhere. Try disconnecting wires on one or both.

    wiring issues

That looks horrible, I think a dash harness is available. If not how about a salvage yard? Probably would be better off pulling it all out and starting over rather than chasing various electrical issues.

    Vaccum issue

Don't know if that switch is vacuum or electric but yes, cruise is killed by brake. If you suspect a problem, temporarily plug the vacuum hose to diaphragm.
  23. fast 99

    Vaccum issue

Applying brakes does allow vacuum to flow into the power brake unit. That's how the system assists with braking. Engine speed should only momentarily increase when the brakes are first applied. If the higher engine speed continues during brake application there is likely an internal leak. Most...

    Blower motor draining battery

Some years fan ran on low to pressurize the cab but only when key is on. Might be a problem with that circuit. If the fan is running the draw should be high enough to power a test light. Backtrack from blower motor. First thing I would do is pull fuses to find out what circuit is powered up.

    Blower motor draining battery

Shouldn't be power on it with ignition off. There is another recent thread on how to trace draws.
