1985 K5 350 always running rich?
Are you sure it's rich? Does it burn your eyes that would be lean. Check fuel pressure should be no more than 8 lbs actually closer to 5 or 6, is choke opening and if not does it need or have 12v power? Did you adjust the idle mix? That cannot be set correctly on the bench.- fast 99

When draining oil look for metal particles. If present, you know what's wrong. If ok, pull valve covers inspect for loose or broken parts. If vacuum gauge is available hook it up should be steady. It is also possible a chunk of carbon got dislodged, usually will quiet down if that's the case.- fast 99

Lean, low fuel pressure think the specs are 9-13 they will not run near the lower spec, fuel volume plugged filter, have seen defective off brand distributor caps crossfire buy a Delphi they are expensive, bad coil, corroded coil tower, bad plug wires. Can't get rid of bog
Easy to diagnose, install a vacuum gauge to manifold vacuum. Under a load will decrease to almost zero or loosen header pipe, drive around the block.- fast 99

I have installed almost every brand belt out there and with the exception of serpentine belts never had a drive issue like this I could blame on the belt. Caliper rattles...help?
If the caliper is loose just get new hardware. Never had to go oversize with the wedge and spring. Also the outer pad needs to be pinched on the caliper and inner pad has a small spring steel anti rattle piece. That clips on the bottom edge of the pad between pad and caliper. Free swap out isn't really free all the time. Add money if a business. Lost time refixing and lost time that could have been used making money on another vehicle. So, kind of a double hit. Yes, some companies will partially reimburse businesses for labor but not nearly enough.- fast 99

K20 454 truck engine build
Double pumper will hurt millage, not that it will be that good in any case. Take a look at air flow charts for the CI and operating RPM. Engines require a lot less carb than most people install on them. Others will disagree, my first choice would be a Q jet.- fast 99

Interesting, really frustrating wasting time and money doing things twice or more. Parts must be cheap to make. If production costs were high excessive returns would kill any profit. Delphi moved at least some production out of the country may be all of it. US today can't compete globally.- fast 99

Many Delphi and GM pumps that I have seen are either Mexican or offshore. However, they seem to be built to a different standard. Can't remember the last time we had a bad Delphi fuel pump. Had 2 that were junk out of the box. 3rd time bought Delphi or GM can't remember. That one has been fine for 2 years now. Bought extras while they were available. Defective pumps did not have a return spring on top of pump arm, stuck at 1/2 travel.- fast 99

Some older cars have dual manual adjusters. If I remember right, one was VW. Problem with them is age/corrosion and access. Some are an absolute PITA. A 30-minute job can turn into 4. Worst are 2 ton and heavier drum brake juice systems. Have spent days and a huge pile of the customers cash... -

Self-adjusters were stock. One incorrect spring, missing parts. Needs self-adjuster and hdwr kits. Be sure and check cables for being stuck. Also lining appears to be delaminating on the top. -

Passing CA Smog help - High HCs
Does California do under hood inspections? They did them here. Vehicles would fail for simple items like a missing air cleaner hot air tube. They would not even test the vehicle if anything was missing, altered or if they could prove it inoperable. 2WD FWD were dyno tested, 4x4's stationary.- fast 99

Mechanical temp gauge in head?
Had a mechanical temp gauge in the left head on a 350 SB. Ran around 20 degrees hotter than the thermostat approx 220 with a 195 stat. Just used 220 as the baseline normal temp.- fast 99
