Does anyone know where I could find the thick gasket on the base of an oil fill tube? This one is hard as a rock and doesn't seal well.

    Transmission cooler ideas

Some later models have a bracket mount factory cooler, possibly adapt one or at least use the mounts. Anything you buy will likely be universal. Is there a pick and pull near you?

This is a coolant leak right?

Somewhere I ran across a voltage specification that would help determine if the cooling system had turned into a battery and/or the coolant additives had been depleted. Can't remember the number but think it was in the less than 1 volt area, possibly .4v. Haven't used the test in years but at...

What Sending units oil and water temp needed for guage cluster to work like factory in k10 454 swap I will buying all the components new thank you

Overall parts quality is horrible. You will have better luck with GM, Delphi or AC Delco but even some of their parts are offshore. I am proponent of "if it aint broke don't fix it". Only place you can go is backwards.

An acquaintance who owns a used car lot bought some cheap supposedly virgin refrigerant. Sealed in the box. He ended up replacing entire ac systems on every car that got some of it from corrosion.

    R12 Replacement

Certainly, changing over to 134 has been done for 20 years at least. There is a lot of information on how to do it successfully. Refrigerant oil is different, seals, drier, orifice tube, replacing hoses and flushing is sometimes needed. Most of the work could be done in the backyard environment...

    Needing some help

Agree, unless a donor vehicle is available. Pictures are too dark. Don't need to see the entire engine compartment just the component you're questioning. Am guessing but appears to be an aftermarket system. Would likely be more cost effective to buy a new complete system.

    Bad Proportioning Valve?

We ran into a lot of problems with Ford's when these first came out. Valve was not self- centering. We were able to re-center them by opening one side or the other and slowly depressing the pedal. That procedure pushed the valve across. If the brake light flashed, then went back on opened the...

    Bubba's Brake Bleeder: A Guide

Been doing this a long time. I try to simplify brake jobs and be as efficient with time as possible. First thing, suck out the old fluid in master and refill with new, proceed with repair. If hydraulic parts are being replaced let the system drain until fresh fluid is at each corner. Gravity...

    Crate SBC 350 installation plan

Most times I assemble the motor as much as possible before installation. Access is much easier on the engine stand. Have never used a leveler. My engine plate has 5 holes instead or the usual 3. Using the second one back angles the rear down. Will easily bolt up. Works on everything from a small...

Damper seal or pan gasket? Damper seal can be replaced without pulling pan. If pan is pulled do yourself a favor buy a one-piece gasket.

Where to buy stock mechanical fuel pump that isn't trash?

Went through a couple new bad pumps. What I found was the cheaper ones did not have a return spring on top of the pump arm. The arm stuck 1/2 way down resulting in low volume. When I finally found pumps with a spring bought spares. Both are 3 line one is a Delphi other is AC. Not sure if it...

    88 suburban 350 rebuild questions.

One thing to consider is putting a leg in it. There's no substitute for CI. Scat parts are decent even made in China. First thing would find out of the heads are usable. If not, that decision is already made. In reality if the heads need a lot of work [money] buy an aftermarket set. Wish I...

    Repairing damage on brown truck

Yes, it's called blending. Color is applied and feathered out. Then clear coated over the entire area. There will not be a visible blend line where color and clear coat ends. Don't understand why one of the shops would want to strip entire panel unless they are afraid of lifting. Surprised an...

    Repairing damage on brown truck

Normally that could easily be repaired and blended lots of area to feather the color. Many new mix colors make matching difficult, and it could be an issue if this was painted with an old formula. Stripped, color needs to be blended into adjacent panel. Clear does not peel if the area is...

    AM/FM Radio

I used to find them at pick and pull yards. Most had problems with scratchy controls. Bought cans of spray contact cleaner and drenched the inside with it while moving the knobs. Nearly everyone one came out of it. In the last few years those radios have dried up. Keep in mind GM used the same...

    Rear dually wheels

I tried 235 16's on a dually. Sidewalls would touch when loaded, very close when not. Ended up installing 215's. OEM wheels are the same with either a cab and chassis or dually pickup. Axle width changes nothing. If you look at the picture above there is no room for more offset. Another problem...
