MagnaFlow vs Flowmaster vs Straight Pipes

I've been looking around and I wondered if I use 2.5-inch pipe and use 3in mufflers will it have too much gap between the two?

MagnaFlow vs Flowmaster vs Straight Pipes

what do you guys think, Side exit exhaust or dump before Axle? I know the side exit is more crackly and pops more and the before axle is deeper. also, how can I make the exhaust to where I can swap out muffler when I want to? Any of the new guys have a particular muffler you like?

Sorry I meant 307. A few companies make those. https://skipwhiteperformance.com/catalog/sbc-chevy-scat-421-427-forged-crankshaft-3875-str-2pc-rms-4-350-3875-6000-kit_87485/

Now if you use the 1968-69 large Journal crankshaft from a 302 you could make it a 420. It has a stroke of 3.875.

You could just use a ‘68 and above crankshaft, they were large journal.

how’s that engine of yours coming along? If my memory serves me correctly 427 tall deck? Breathing through the absolutely most amazing exhaust! I read in the old Hot Rod forum that 1.6 is an ideal ratio.

If you had two almost identical engines the only difference being camshaft profile, one that has no overlap and one that a lot of overlap. Overlap is when both the intake and exhaust valve are open at the same time and it gives it that Lopey thudding sound (the sound that makes me all warm and...

I've wondered about RPM ranges, some say they aren't very accurate. Someone told me to look at a 4.3 Converter. I stil get confused about these things. You could try backing off the timing a bit, and cam selection will also make a difference. I run my truck on 87 and it's 9.5:1

That is a good point and I stand corrected. Thank you for explaining since I was thinking of doing that and never took the total cost into account.

I do believe you will have to use those link bars so it doesn't turn on the cam lobe. Keep in mind that if you do cam it you may want to look at a higher stall converter. X2 I found some eBay heads, yes Ebay. before you say you cant buy good quality parts from there hear me out, they are $310...

You should get bigger displacement and little more compression. Retro roller cams are going to be the roller cam option. Look at the Comp Cams Xtreme 4x4 cams, something from about 600-1000 RPM maybe 1200, http://www.camquest.com/. http://www.hotrod.com/articles/ccrp-1112-406ci-small-block-chevy/.
