My truck had a bonfire inside the cab last night

Well that just fricken sucks!! Like another said, you're lucky, could have been a lot worse. So what fell out of your coat pocket to do that?

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

Yes sir Eric, you are correct! Short story: I bought this holley brand new many moons back. It ran this same Olds 455 just fine when that 455 was stuffed into my 51 Ford F-1 (1/2 ton truck). I had to adjust it probably 3 different times back then, but it ran the truck for many years. Your truck...

How to time my engine, with a cam degreed at 1.25 degrees advanced??

@QBuff02 I left the vacuum advance disconnected this entire time, and still have it disconnected. Are you saying I should try to achieve initial timing of 10-16, then rev it up to 2,800 and check the rest? I assume you made your first statement of camshaft timing/ignition timing due to my thread...

How to time my engine, with a cam degreed at 1.25 degrees advanced??

@Blue Ox and @Craig Nedrow thank you again for the help on this!!!! Now, had I known even just a little bit of what was posted above here, I would have known a bit more of what to search for to find some answers. As I stated, I am used to stuff just being stock.... Looks like these BB Olds...

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

Well, it is taking up space now on my workbench, and I would prefer not to just "put it away" and let it collect dust. I'd rather see it go to someone that will use it.

How to time my engine, with a cam degreed at 1.25 degrees advanced??

@Craig Nedrow sorry, I should have added more details. I am using a 1969 Olds 455, so bigger compression (9:1 to 10:1) engine with C heads. I installed a new Comp Cams Thumpr series camshaft. I also installed a new Cloyes brand timing gear set with 9 keyways in the lower gear to get it degreed...

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

The fuel pump on my 455 is the stock style mechanical pump, rated at 7lbs of pressure I believe it is. Yes, I left this pump on there too for running the Q-jet also. There is no regulator in line after the pump either.

How to time my engine, with a cam degreed at 1.25 degrees advanced??

Gent's, after searching this site, then searching the innerweb I am still not coming up with an answer of what to do here. This truck & engine build has been a lot of "new things" I have never done before. So, I want to know: How do I properly time my engine, with my cam degreed at 1.25...

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

I decided not to mess with it. Beyond removing it from the 455, I have done nothing with it. Maybe in the future I will tinker on it, unless I decide to just get rid of it. The Q-Jet is on the truck and she runs awesome, and is very responsive. My dad really enjoyed tearing down the carb and...

What have you done to your square lately??

@idahovette to be honest, I "kinda" could not wait any longer the other day, and I may have taken it for a hell of a spin :driver: On Saturday once it was warmed up and we had the carb dialed in, I said to my Dad "I gotta take it for a spin"....to which he said "I'm coming with!!" So, it...

Cool thanks! Not that I can make any money being a youtuber though, but I appreciate it. I post up videos for fun, and they sound better through youtube anyhow.

76 GMC gauge cluster swap (no tach cluster to a tach cluster)

Yup, plug the wire in and go! However, not sure what the sending unit is from, so I may have put something different in than what should be there..??

What have you done to your square lately??

This past week I installed the 3rd intake manifold metal gasket (long stories......). Installed the inner valve springs after break in, and my Dad rebuilt a good old fashioned quadrajet for this baby, she runs beautiful now and has some serious power. I took it for a spin with my dad, I just...

76 GMC gauge cluster swap (no tach cluster to a tach cluster)

Good news, now that I can fire up the truck, everything in the cluster works as it should! I need a new sending unit for the temp gauge however, it does not work. When we (my dad and I) grounded out the wire it pegged the gauge so we know the wire works.

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

No I did not. I have a lot of other work to do on this (intake job again, and 2nd valve springs to go in), so I may still take the carb apart to see, but I won't be putting it back on to run it. My dad (retired 35 year GM mechanic, so he remembers working on these trucks new!!) is building a...

:happy175: :laughing1: I do want to try to fix it, or at least see if I can find the issue. I won't use it again however.

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

Vince, sorry I missed that little detail! Yes, new filter (steel one, placed right before carb, about 4 inches of fuel line after this filter to carb), new line, new fuel, clean carb (well, so I thought!).

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

Once I get the carb off I will take a look at that. It needs to come off anyhow, and I will open it up and check those items even closer. I had it apart prior to putting it on the intake, it looked really dang good.....doesn't mean it would work properly though as I have found out.

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

I can only assume you dislike Quadrajets? :anitoof: Yes, fuel pressure is there. In fact every time I would bust loose that top screw to adjust it, a spray of fuel would come out of it. I took the truck out of the garage again last night, but that was after about 10 minutes of effing with...

Holley 600 WTF moment---curious to know whats wrong

First off, I am putting a Quadrajet on this engine like I should have done to begin with! However, for my own sake I want to know why the holley is causing problems. It is a holley 600 4-barrel, vacuum secondaries on my 455 in my 76 GMC. No matter what I do, it either gets way too much fuel in...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thank you! I feel the same way :Big Laugh: I just thought of this, glad I recorded it a while back!!! This is kinda cool. Here is that same 455, stock, with the exhaust opened up when it was in my 51 Ford Truck (F-1, half ton). That Olds sounded nice then. AND....here is the same link (from...

We (my dad and I) FINALLY....yes, FINALLY fired this baby up today!!!!!! Here is this sweetheart idling after the break in, and of course...cutouts opened up to hear it clearly :Big Laugh:

    HELPPPP!!!

Here is what my oil pressure wire looks like (although my truck has a mechanical gauge.....I had earlier clipped this wire from my parts truck anyhow). Here is the temperature sending unit wire.
