What have you done to your square lately??

I worked on the exhaust tonight......again......from the mufflers back, took me a few hours, what a pain, but I got it! Not super productive, but it needed to be done. Have both left & right matched up now, so I can hang them and hook from my cutouts to the mufflers. One pipe had one small bend...

Well, I am far enough along that I hope one of these weeks soon I can fire this pig up. Been a long time coming....

corvette side pipes on 87 step side

I had not thought of that, you make a good point there. Some will pay decent money for original stuff, even if that stuff needs restoration. That may pay for new repop chrome pipes of choice.

corvette side pipes on 87 step side

That depends on how much money you want to spend. Chroming something isn't cheap, and if your pipes are pitted up, they may not even chrome them for you. Might I suggest that you clean up the pipes & guards really well, then spray high temp matte black on the pipes (even a rattle can), and...

corvette side pipes on 87 step side

@katie87 I think either way would look fine, if done right. If you do stacks I would think setting them up like the old Dodge Truck "Lil Red Express" has them would be a good way to do it. Or maybe inside the box through the floor, to the inside of the frame rails???.... For side pipes...

What have you done to your square lately??

I took my first shot at making an exhaust system this weekend. Got some of it done up the exhaust cutouts!

    Mean sounding cams worth it?

I hear you there! It is still hard for me not to go "all in" on something. It is nice though, because you get to drive it around some, then do a little at a time on it which is usually Saturday work, and then you get to drive it around more until the next weekend of tinkering. My friends dad...

    Mean sounding cams worth it?

@Avery brown welcome to the site, good to see another young guy getting into this stuff.....dam I sound old as heck right now (40). Reading your first post reminded me of myself, I was around 13 when I got my 51 Ford Truck (used to be my dads when he was younger). Man, I was all giddy and...

    '76 GMC 1 ton (454) radiator???

Well, I am back at this...again. I think I have found something that will work for this truck. @bucket do you see any reason this radiator would not work? I may pull a camper once in a while locally (no more than 30 miles from home), but mostly this truck will be for cruising.....not sure if I...

    Wood grain GMC dash insert

No worries! This is NOT something that would be needed asap. I may want to do a conversion some year, for now I just have to get it on the road. Thanks for checking! Sorry to hijack your thread.

4" Front Drop Questions (shock/drop spindle combo)

I am not a suspension guru, but if it were my truck and I did not want to buy new shocks I would try it and if it does not work (bottoms out the shock while driving) then I would get a shorter shock for the front. You would only be compressing the shock 1 inch more with the coil you plan to use...

Placement of mufflers for best sound on a crew cab?

Gents, thanks for the input! I will leave them in that spot then for now ;) I hope today to do some work on it!!

Placement of mufflers for best sound on a crew cab?

Gents, I will be continuing on the exhaust work on my 76 crew cab. I would like to know where my mufflers should go to get a good deep grumble from the exhaust system. Searching this forum, and others has not really given a clear answer, and maybe there isn't one??.... The mufflers I have are...

    Wood grain GMC dash insert

Ok, so do you have the clutch pedal and all necessary items to make it work up for grabs, or are you keeping those items too? Wow, I thought mine had a bit of rust! Nothing like that on your cab however! Here is the one I am working on, from the land of salt...

    Wood grain GMC dash insert

@PrairieDrifter how much of this truck are you parting out? I too have a 76 GMC. I see yours is a manual. I was thinking of converting mine at some point to a 5 or 6 speed manual just for fun.

Advice on: Master cylinder, booster, and calipers (leaks on 76 GMC 1 ton--pictures)

I did not use new copper washers on the hose block. I did clean it all up really nice with a small wire brush wheel on my cordless drill (stuffed a tiny rag into caliper to keep crap out), and the copper washers cleaned up nice, as did the hose block. I torqued it down pretty dang good...

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

I just went out and took pictures. I have swapped the brackets from one truck to another. Here are the brackets that were on my blue truck for the 77 & up grills (I put them on my 76 parts truck.....trying to put everything on this I take off my blue 76). Here are the correct ones to...

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

You are correct sir, the early ones have shallow grill brackets, the later have longer grill brackets. I will take a couple pictures and post them up for you..My grill in my 76 GMC was a 77'ish Chebby grill. To get the 76 grill to fit, I had to remove brackets from my parts truck and put them in...

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

Not a driver. Yes stripping it of the parts, unfortunately. Now my blue truck has a green tailgate. This one is just a wee bit rusted. Nice part is this truck was never touched/messed with. In fact all the interior ductwork went into mine it was so dang nice.

74 vs 75 GMC pickup grill

I too found out that 75-76 GMC's really suck to find parts for. I searched for a bit and found a truck within a couple hour drive, bought the entire truck just for parts. It has a beautiful grill, and original potmetal headlight bezels. ANNNNNDD.....it has a factory tach which I did not...

Post a pic of your first car or restoration!

LOVE those Oldsmobiles!!!!! I respect them all, the early ones were boxy and just cool looking, in 68 up they had those beautiful flowing body lines. '68 & '69 being my two favorite Olds years. I had a chance to purchase a 67 Olds 442, 400 & 4-speed manual, but I passed on it (frame had a bad...

Advice on: Master cylinder, booster, and calipers (leaks on 76 GMC 1 ton--pictures)

@Dave M I actually did try to re-route that brake line, no go. Yes, there are two copper washers (top & bottom) and everything is spotless clean, so it "should have" sealed up. I too think it is not perfectly flat, that is why I wanted to show you guys this and get an opinion. "IF" I had only...

Post a pic of your first car or restoration!

Here is mine, with my senior picture (don't laugh :p )....dam I was young. This is my 80 Olds 2-door Delta88 Royal Brougham. My dad bought it when I was 14 or 15, he wanted the hubcaps from it. He kept it though as a first car for me. The paint was all chalky on it, the landau top was all...
