'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

Thanks for the input. I'm hoping to stuff at least a skinny 33" tire under there. We'll see. And yes, I love the H2 wheels, too. I obviously had them on my old Jeep (had to have a friend machine out the centers to clear those hubs), and am happy to have them on my CUCV, as well. I have a...

'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

Yes I am. I've talked with Brian on the phone (super nice/approachable guy), but haven't had the pleasure of meeting him in-person yet. I wasn't able to make the first GM Truck Fair he organized last fall, but plan to make it happen this year.

'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

Thanks! Yes, those tools are pretty slick, and given my less-than-typical question, I thought it might eventually boil down to me getting one of those. I'm certain it would be money well spent vs. guessing at the right combination of wheels & tires, which could be a very spendy mistake. Thank...

'85 C10 tire fit/stuff question (not the normal questions you're used to seeing here)

A quick background before asking my question... I came from 20 years in the Jeep world, and have always loved low-COG builds with minimal-to-no-lift and big tires. It drives me a little nuts to see vehicles lifted higher than they need to be for a given tire size (I see it daily here in East...

    Square body?....well, sort of

Normally, I have a bit of a thing for ugly. This, however, is fugly...not in a good way. :D

    Lowering 1984 c10 rear by 2 inches

Fair enough, but that's completely anecdotal, and doesn't mean that your pinion angle was correct/accurate after doing so. If you're only changing one end of the leaf spring, your pinion angle changes. Maybe 2" drop isn't enough to have any significant effect, although I suspect it may wear...

    Lowering 1984 c10 rear by 2 inches

Ideally, a combination of new main eye hanger and longer shackle would be the best to retain the proper pinion angle (unless shims are added).

Car hauler issues. How can I fix this. I dont know trailer parts.

Fancy, but it feels like overkill for a bumper-pull car hauler. I'd rather have something basic, personally. :)

    Bed Bolts?

FYI - The six (6) short LMC replacement bolts also have the short shoulder.

Cant find anything about keeping M1008 rear payload + shackle flip= front spring size

Alright...I don't know you, so please take this with a grain of salt. Typically, you only want to lift as much as necessary to clear a specific-sized tire. Personally, I'm a low-COG kind of guy who would prefer no lift and a low stance with big tires. To each his own. It's just a bit odd...

Cant find anything about keeping M1008 rear payload + shackle flip= front spring size

@vegetta58 - What tire size are you ultimately trying to fit?

Cant find anything about keeping M1008 rear payload + shackle flip= front spring size

I'm not sure where you're coming up with your $5K number, but even seeing over $2K just in ORD leaf springs all-around...madness. They're leaf springs. I appreciate simple, effective suspension (leaf springs), but not at that price.

NEW Tire Purchases - Sizes, Deals and Reviews !!!

1986 CUCV M1008 (K30). Wheels are Hummer H2 with ~5 5/8" backspacing. The 12.5" wide tires that were on the truck when I got it rubbed the drag link at full lock to the right (it tore the rubber boot open). The new tires are Nitto Recon Grappler 255/80R17s (33" tall, 10" wide), and clear just...

    Transfer case

Internet folklore. :D Most CUCVs had the NP208. I have a M1008 and M1028, both of which came with the NP208. Some of the CUCV variants that required a PTO got the NP205. There's all kinds of information available on the steelsoldiers.com website for anyone interested.

'73-87 Flat Bed from OEM Fleetside floor?

Perhaps "flatbed" was the wrong term. I'd be building a custom bed with shorter-than-stock sides, and modular storage options. The truck will be an open-air, 2WD cruiser for around-town driving and errands. The emphasis will be on keeping the weight of the truck light (stock 305 engine...

What is my new squarebody??? Need help!

The numbers on the data plate from the driver door jamb align with those on my M1008 vs. heavier models (e.g. M1028, M1010, etc.). It's certainly interesting seeing a military vehicle without the front recovery points, at least. Nice-looking truck! Craig

'73-87 Flat Bed from OEM Fleetside floor?

Question... Has anyone ever built a flatbed for their square body using the OEM bed floor as a basis for the flatbed? I have a rust-free bed from my military M1028 CUCV (see my CUCV/'C10 build HERE), but a 112-mph wind event this week knocked my bed off some concrete blocks, and folded the...

    Axel Questions

Welcome to the site. I have an '86 M1008 military truck with the Dana 60, and it's mated to a 14-bolt full-float rear axle. That rear axle won't bolt into your truck, as your spring perches and shock mounts will be different. There is a lighter-duty semi-float 14-bolt, too, so do some...
