Replacement electric external fuel pump suggestion?
I don't have the truck available to eyeball the pump right now but I think it is the 4602RV Carter pump. When I turn the key on I can hear the pump but after I start the truck I can not hear the pump. It comes with rubber bushings to isolate the mounting bracket, making the pump quieter. I mounted a Carter rotary vane pump from Summit on my '85 c-30 454 dually about 12 years ago and it's always run perfectly. I included a relay and an external pressure regulator.- drumvirt

Crank pulley thread size for 3 holes.
Don't know the size, but could this work?: Spray WD-40 or such in the holes to loosen gunk. Wear googles and look out for spray back. When you think it's had time to soften the gunk, use compressed air and nozzle to blast crud out of holes and again look out for spray back.- drumvirt

Fuel starvation? Possible scenario: The "dribble of fuel" is enough to start it, along with the tad of fuel from the starved pump. The "run for probably 15 minutes" would be extremely lean running. Truck died under load
Make sure you didn't miss any ground wires. Also, start engine and jiggle all electrical wires, with a long insulated screwdriver, including both coil wire ends. One car I had did same as your truck. David, I replaced the too-leaky to-bad-to-repair oem one 5 or 6 years ago with a 2-row BeCool aluminum from Summit. I wasn't aware of the 3 or 4 row recommendation for 454's when I did it, but a "forumer" said its construction makes it just as efficient as a 3 or 4 row. With all the great help...- drumvirt
