What did you pay for a square

Jimmy, what's that emblem I see on your front quarter panels? My dually only had 2 mounting holes on each panel, right where those emblems are on your truck. Can you post a close-up here?

I've got a blue 85 dually just like yours, 113,000, blue interior. I like that red on yours.

Replacement electric external fuel pump suggestion?

I don't have the truck available to eyeball the pump right now but I think it is the 4602RV Carter pump. When I turn the key on I can hear the pump but after I start the truck I can not hear the pump. It comes with rubber bushings to isolate the mounting bracket, making the pump quieter. Also...

What new tools have you got lately?

If money is no object and the highest quality is, and you want the best in superior design and manufacturing, made in the USA by one of the only 2 tool manufacturers who still make their own hand tools here, then it's Wright Tools. The other USA manufacturer is Cornwell. Summit carries the full...

    83 k15 won’t run in gear

Tranny? Torque converter malfunction can do that. What you described happened to my '95 Crown Vic a few months ago, but it would move a few feet in gear before it died. After a few more tries it wouldn't move at all. End of this week it gets towed to a very reputable and experienced trans shop...

Increased Cooling with Electric Fan and Electric Water Pump

Thanks Jeremy. In my OP I didn't originally make my problem totally clear. In the OP I wrote that I had, "a problem cooling when I've been driving at highway speeds and outside temp hits about 95 or more", and then finished by asking how I might be able to cool it down after I shut my truck off...

Replacement electric external fuel pump suggestion?

I mounted a Carter rotary vane pump from Summit on my '85 c-30 454 dually about 12 years ago and it's always run perfectly. I included a relay and an external pressure regulator.

    Interior Plastic Paint

Just remember the greasy hamburger juice, residue from anyone's hands, nicotine residue, etc., etc., from over the years. Years in the paint industry taught me that there's always some contaminants on a surface that need prep. If you have nothing else, VM&P Naptha (same as lighter fluid) will...

Crank pulley thread size for 3 holes.

Don't know the size, but could this work?: Spray WD-40 or such in the holes to loosen gunk. Wear googles and look out for spray back. When you think it's had time to soften the gunk, use compressed air and nozzle to blast crud out of holes and again look out for spray back.

Fix Slamming Doors - Striker Door Latch Repair

= 1 bunch. Thanks HotRod. You've given me the kick in the *** i've needed to go get some pex and take care of this on Ol' Brutus, my "85 dually. I've been puttin' it of for years, believe it or not. Just think. When I'm done people ridin' with me will be tellin' me "Hey, your truck has great pex!"

Ethanol Free Or Premium Or Either

Thanks Bennyt. Top Tier isn't just hype. They have high standards in gas formulation and test the different brands on a regular basis. Gasoline brands must continue to meet the standards if they want to keep the Top Tier designation. If a brand like, let's say, Shell, wants to advertise that...

Jim, are you planning to change wheels? If you do and want to sell those OEM wheel covers let me know. Looks like you have the same OEM covers like my profile picture shows but I'm missing a hub cover.

Fuel pump pushrod won’t slide into block

Fuel starvation? Possible scenario: The "dribble of fuel" is enough to start it, along with the tad of fuel from the starved pump. The "run for probably 15 minutes" would be extremely lean running. The "Put it in gear and it stalled" is stalling due to fuel starvation under load. The "crank and...

Fuel pump pushrod won’t slide into block

Jacob, I bought my '85 454 dually in 2005. Owner had put an electric pump on it. Pump would lose prime when fuel gauge didn't work and tank went dry. I switched to the Carter electric in about 2006 but not the one in the other poster's picture. This one was from Summit and was shaped more like a...

    Truck died under load

Make sure you didn't miss any ground wires. Also, start engine and jiggle all electrical wires, with a long insulated screwdriver, including both coil wire ends. One car I had did same as your truck. I jiggled all ground wires with no results. After my car spent a week at the best shop in town...

    Getting rid of old gas

I run a couple of glurgs mixed fresh gas in my IC engine on my wood splitter. Nary a problem. But anything else is extremely risky folks. Ever heard a child having to get her burnt skin peeled off at the hospital? I have. Hard to even mention it. Don't want to hear of anybody here gettin hurt...

Increased Cooling with Electric Fan and Electric Water Pump

Hey Quincy, I left Chi. in '73, folks left and moved to Sidney outside of Champaign same time, uncle had a small farm in Effingham, Gr. Gr. Grandpa settled in unincorporated Chi. in about 1830 or earlier, so my family has been messin up Illinois for centuries! Ha! By the way, Effingham was named...

Increased Cooling with Electric Fan and Electric Water Pump

David, I replaced the too-leaky to-bad-to-repair oem one 5 or 6 years ago with a 2-row BeCool aluminum from Summit. I wasn't aware of the 3 or 4 row recommendation for 454's when I did it, but a "forumer" said its construction makes it just as efficient as a 3 or 4 row. With all the great help...

Increased Cooling with Electric Fan and Electric Water Pump

Rob, I got so many good suggestions it's actually reminded me of a couple of things I was kickin around a while back, like checking if thermo is fully functioning, etc. I think I'll start by pressure testing the coolant system and also seeing if I can evacuate any air in the system. I'm going to...

Increased Cooling with Electric Fan and Electric Water Pump

Right, thanks. I've considered possible need for a higher capacity battery, too. I don't rush into this kinda stuff so I appreciate all these suggestions. I't will stew in my brain for a while, and I'll look up some more stuff and consider all forum cautions/suggestions. Then try not to screw...
