What have you done to your square lately??

I finally finished up with converting from the HID headlights I installed about 20 years ago, back to plain old sealed beams after one of the HID's burned out last summer... took awhile to line up the sealed beams I wanted, and to remove the mess of ballasts and ignitors, get new adjustors to...

    aircraft grade materials

Ford also used the swiss cheese method to lighten their light truck frames for 1980. They must have taken it a bit too far, as solid frame rails reappeared for 1982.

Yes! Was just gonna say this...

    NECESSARY Q-jet vacuum lines needed

Also a picture of your emissions/vacuum hose routing diagram would be mucho helpful. I'm presuming this has Electronic Spark Control and an M4MED carburetor? The diaphragm should be to lock out your secondaries when the engine is cold (choke is on).

Same shiite as the other guy who was askin... You now need 50 posts to get into those places. I think they'll give you the key to use the restroom at that point, too. ...and make sure you have four spares if you're running Firestones.

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks! I think the cutting bit was part of the reason I stalled so long... but the truth is that you *do* have a fair amount of leeway with both the light and the switch, as they are a bit bigger than the actual holes, so can cover up minor screwups. I drive and work a lot at night, so any...

What have you done to your square lately??

It had one half-assedly installed by either a dealer or a prior owner. They basically poked three holes in the back of the cab (see photo); the center one was for a pigtail that went directly to the dome light, so the cargo light came on whenever the dome light was on, whether you wanted it or...

What have you done to your square lately??

Finally got around to installing the cargo light properly... with switch and all. It only took about 18 years, and now I can quit using my reverse lights for loading lights and general area illumination...

    Beauty rings and center caps

I guess it's better than nothing, but still kind of a bummer.

    Are those die-cast or plastic?

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Finally got the project finished up a few days ago... Wasn't able to completely erase the hole the prior owner poked in the back of the cab, but the cargo light body does, thankfully.

How important are orginal heads on a numbers matching engine?

I've been driving my truck for over 20 years with its original 305, and I honestly can't come up with any good reasons to not rebuild it when the time comes. I know I'm supposed think it's a pile of hot garbage, but, to be honest, it's been doing the job better than it probably should...

How important are orginal heads on a numbers matching engine?

If you're going the numbers matching route, the more original stuff you've got, the better. If you're planning a high level restoration someday, I'd hang on to everything.

    Unbelievable Turn Signal Issues

What happens when you turn the hazards on, then step on the brake pedal? You should get all four corners and dash indicators to light steadily. That'll help determine where the problem lies.

Right on. Thank you for taking the time to do that!

    1975 c20 backfire issues

I have sticky valves in my 1962 Studebaker after running on rancid fuel for a bit... two exhaust valves will hang open just enough to cause some rather loud pops and bangs out of the exhaust. Possibility that's what's happening to you. Since there's no chance of pistons and valves meeting in a...

is this 79 rare? should i restore or restor-mod?

I would try to keep that one original... I just would want to experience it how your Grandfather did. As much as I've been around these trucks, I can't remember seeing a Fleetside with a wood bed! This also had to be getting close to the end for getting a 454 in a 1/2 ton? Any chance of...

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Okay. Just wanted to bump this one more time to see if anyone can grab the measurements of that rectangular hole in the back of the cab. I know I can extrapolate it from the picture, but quick 'n' easy is even better. Just need to make this cut then fish the wire, and there will be light.

    I broke my new truck

I tend to forget, since I've had mine off SO many times that it's become easier (stop laughing). I have a tilt column, so tilting the wheel to its lowest setting and shifting the (automatic) trans to 1st helps a lot with being able to snake the bezel out. Glad to hear you got it done!

    Weird wheel question?

All of the common 8 lug patterns I can think of are the same 8 on 6.5", which yours should be. I think the only hangup was that Mopar used a larger center hole in their wheels, which wouldn't affect you either way. Have never run into 8 on 6".

How do I add a clock to the blank spot? 84 Suburban

Yeah. It's been almost 20 years since I installed mine, but do remember that it's easiest to just get the correct parts off of a junkyard truck that already has the clock option. The lens and black mask are significantly different when you've got the blanking plug; the latter is a part of the...

    Direct power headlights need fuse?

Yes. Fuse size is based on minimum gauge of wire in circuit.

    Unbelievable Turn Signal Issues

The dash indicator glow is from the front side markers feeding back through the green dash indicators. It's a function of how they're wired to flash with the turn signals, and those will go out as soon as you install correct front turn signals. As far as the fuel pump thing... that's a bit of...
