Guess I'm still pretty new around here...

I've never posted on the official welcome wagon page, so here goes... I currently own a mostly original K10 Silverado shortbox, and have for about 20 years. I bought it in my early 20's, so that makes me pretty old. Other Squarebodies I've owned are a 1975 GMC 3/4 ton 2wd that I grew up with...

    Steering Stabilizer - K20

Yes. Mall crawling can be very punishing on a big bad truck. Say you hit an order of stale nachos in the food court parking lot and jalapeño cheese your steering stabilizer... not good!

    Praise for the Delco 2700

I thought I remembered a ground strap like you mention, but my 1986 doesn't have one, and shows no evidence of ever having had... mebbe it was my 1975 that did. Were they installed near the center of the hood?

    Little tips and tricks

Holy crap. I never noticed that they did that with the 5 lug wheels... I'm used to looking at the ones on my 4wd, which are symmetrical. Your implementation *does* look far better.

How slow is your daily driver?

I've owned a fast car before, but my mainstays are pretty lackluster. My 1986 is my current daily driver, and is equipped with its original LE9 305, 700R4, and 3.08 gears. Performance is ehh... variable... depending on whether the ESC, carburetor, and all the emissions controls are on speaking...

Are there any headlight adjusters that don't suck? Mine keep stripping.

One by one, the original headlight adjusters (the white ones) on my 1986 have been crumbling and turning into powder, so I've been replacing them with these ones with black plastic inserts, which sometimes strip out the first time I try to adjust a headlight, leaving my lights crosseyed or...

    Important PSA from another forum.

I do a fair amount of automotive electrical work, and even I didn't know that! That was a bit sketchy even for the old days, as many people back then replaced their specific load thermal flashers with a variable load one (for pulling trailers and the like). I always wondered why older variable...

    Praise for the Delco 2700

I don't listen to AM/FM radio much these days, and I haven't even seen a cassette for a long time, but I still get some entertainment out of tuning in distant AM stations from time to time. Was bored tonight, so I turned the radio on, parked out in the open, and started at the low end of the...

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

That's actually a good idea. My regular fish tape (I played an electrician in a previous life) is a bit too stiff for the job. Once I finalize measurements and make the holes, I'll get to stuffing that wire through. I do most of my work at night, so looking forward to being able to see in my bed...

    Radio light bulb change, 2700 AM/FM stereo/cassette

Interesting. My truck has the same radio, and I always assumed it had a single 1889 bulb like it says in the owner's manual. Those #73 bulbs have a 15,000 hour life (just a bit under 2 years constant use), so shouldn't ever need to be replaced. In real life, however... My dial scale still...

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Thanks for posting that! I have just about all of the factory literature for my truck, but no assembly manual. I fortunately got all of the stuff I needed back before GM discontinued the parts... I'm using my old lamp housing, wrecking yard for the switch and harness- the rest is new.

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

I was thinking it's gonna be a bit of a pain to fish those wires, so I can see why they likely made the hole so big on the back of the cab; mine actually did have a cargo lamp sorta installed with just those three holes in the cab. And yes, I could still use those measurements. Much appreciated!

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Gotcha. I think the rectangular hole is there to fish the wires up between the inner and outer roof panel. The only access you have to do this is down by the left rear speaker, the dome light hole, and this one. And yep. Un-cutting sucks! ;)

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Sorry for the fustercluck loading images on the first try, but this is what I'm working with (The fourth image is of switch installed in someone else's truck). No tabs of any sort, but there's a rough locating mark on the backside of the plastic trim. It does look like the hole *might* be...

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

Right on, and thanks for the replies! It looks like whoever installed it managed to get the outer holes in roughly the right place, but then they just popped a third hole in a random location... should be a decent place to start a rectangular cutout. Any chance of getting a measurement of the...

Correct holes for cargo lamp and switch mounting

My 1986 K10 came to me about 20 years ago with a cargo light, dealer or owner installed with Scotchlok connectors going directly to the dome light. Since the truck is in pretty decent original condition, I want to install the thing correctly, making the holes for switch and lamp housing look...
