Shining up the trim
Hello everyone, been a while. Work continues but down to the nitty gritty - aka shining up my trim. This is the original trim and looks..........cloudy. I have tried softscrub, aluminium polish and many other things. I would like to get it looking better and keep it from getting cloudy...- My78truck

1983 Olds Toronado
Had a diesel Olds Toronado at one point and it was also white. Affectionally called it the white Sherman tank - that thing would plow through snow and on dry roads would float. Kinda sad I dont have it anymore.......but maybe not with the diesel pricies now! :( -
Leak under dash?
:D Great minds think alike. Suck a PIA area to work on. I poured fiberglass resin into the seam then sprayed the entire cowl trough with rubberized undercoating.- My78truck

Cruise Control
I changed out my cruise control. It is the Cruisemaster no resume system with just the button on the end of the turn signal. Leak under dash?
Ruh-Roh......I had the same thing. The seam seal in the cowl was failing after 40+ years, was rusted through not only into th cab but at the top of the firewall. Cleaned it all up, and resealed the cowl area and up under the dash and fiberglass and sealed the firewall. Good luck!!- My78truck

Rusty floor pans best options
Ahhhh, when I pulled my carpet I found the same thing. Luckily the floor was still solid. Was definately a cracked heater core. If it were me (all over again), I would get the heater core fixed. It is a painful experience and if you have it done professionally, costly. After getting that... -
Dash Pad Install
You may have already done this, but here is a video that might help. I know they make it look easy and is the perfect install. My dash pad I needed to trim on the passenger pillar side to get it to push back into place correctly. -

I ordered the carpet from Stock interiors (https://www.stockinteriors.com/ ), the dash pad, visors and headliner from USA1 ( https://www.usa1industries.com/ ), the door panels, all door trim and arm rests from LMC. I really liked working with USA1. They supposedly have the GM correct color... -

My 78 Chevy Silverado was also "Buckskin" but finding TRUE buckskin is hard. If you order different parts from different vendors, every "Buckskin" will be different. So, my suggestion is find a vendor that has everything you want/need and then you will have to recolor the rest. My truck came... -

Silverado trim help
Can someone direct me to a good pinstriping tape that actually will stick? My Silverado trim has the black on it and some of the color has faded off. Desperately look for this trim piece
If there was a really good restoration body shop around here that does all the fancy painting (like you see on TV) I would have them paint the "trim" on. Saw it done on a show and it looked damn good. Alas, I live too far from California or Texas to get it done. :( -
COWL HOOD MOLDING
I have looked at the aftermarket trim. I just cannot find anything that I like. The original trim actually slides over the lip. If all else fails, I will look at the trim that has an "L" notch on it so it looks like it wraps the edge at least.- My78truck
