    Under dash light

Okay, I figured this out. I pulled the fuse, re-seated the fuse, nothing - it is an SFE 20amp. I happened to have an AGC 20amp so thought, what the heck - not sure what the difference between SFE and AGC are. 1978 Owners manual says "20 amp" fuse -does not designate AGC or SFE. So, I...

    Best vendor? aftermarket? OEM?

The thing I like about LMC, is they give you a year to send things back for a refund, no questions ask. Trust me, I have tested this. I purchased something and then had to fix something else before getting back to being able to install what I originally purchased and then didn't need. With...

    Blower works on high only

Okay, a little late getting in on this discussion. My selector assembly blower switch was working. Then it wasn't. I unhooked negative on battery and pulled the power connecter on assembly and went and had some coffee. Came back and hooked the power connection back up (after cleaning...

OBD, hmmmmmm, did I learn anything.......part yes, part no. It is like chasing a rabbit. You are not going to catch it and you know it is going to run down a hole, yet you chase it anyway. :rotflmao: I would like to think all this maybe it helped someone else. Now I need to figure out why...

    Choke light on automatic transmission?

This truck has a 100 mph speedometer. The oil pressure gauge was switched but registers oil pressure. This IS a 1978 built in the early part of 1978. This truck is part SAE and part metric, it has some things that go back to 77 and some that go into 79. So, it may, or may not, have an...

    Choke light on automatic transmission?

I Have a 1978, 350, V8, automatic TH400 transmission in my truck. When putting my cluster back together, next to the 4-wheel lock light space (which I do not have) is a "choke" idiot light. I replaced the PCB and used the old one to place the clips/light bulbs where they need to be. My old...

    Under dash light

BTW, I HIGHLY suggest changing out cluster, dome, cargo and (eventually) courtesy lights to LED!! Man, what a difference and I actually think my regular ol' head and tail lights burn brighter with less amps being drawn to those lights. Plus is you basically do not have to worry about changing...

    Under dash light

Thanks for trying Dave. My dad was a mechanic by trade for many years and is now retired. He gave me his 2 tall-stacked tools boxes FULL of Mac Tools. Tools have always been my play toys. So, being a mechanic he keep EVERYTHING, old, new, blown, pieces, bits, gaskets, this, that and...

    Under dash light

OBD, yes I remember it working at one point in this truck's 40+ year life. Why I haven't before now, I looked in my original owners manual and it states that "courtesy" bulb is a 1003, NOT a 1004. The 1003 bulb has a single contact. So, I am going to go get a 1003 bulb tomorrow and see if...

    Under dash light

Thanks to both of you. The bulb that came out was a GE 1004 and has 2 contacts, new LED also has 2 contacts and is the correct replacement as suggested by SBL. Socket looks good, I used some sand paper to clean up contact points. Unfortunately it is a plastic socket (unlike dome and cargo)...

    Under dash light

Okay, all you electrical wire geeks, I need some additional brain power. I have an under dash light that is not working. I am switching to LED, not that that should make a difference. Under dash light does not come on either with door open or with door closed, ignition off or ignition on and...

    Removing old trailer brake control

I used to have a horse trailer and had this braking system put in. I no longer have horses, or a trailer, where I need brakes, and want to remove this from under the dash. I do not just go around cutting wires so wondering if someone can tell me what I need to do to remove without affecting...

    Gauges not working

Okay, thank you for all your help. I popped the 4 amp fuse, sprayed with electrical contact cleaner, used a folded piece of sand paper, sprayed again with contact cleaner, put dielectric grease on cleaned contacts, inserted fuse and VOILA' I have gauges again. Thank you so much for walking me...

    Gauges not working

Okay, everything is solidly in place, the circuit panel does not have any lifts or tears or burn spots, all the clips were cleaned with electronic cleaner and a wire brush. So what "connections" are you talking about? I plan on replacing the cluster fuse tomorrow. This is a picture of the...

    Gauges not working

Hello - Refurbing interior and dash of my 1978 Chevy C10. My original gauges were not very pretty anymore. Saw that I could get overlays, but concerned about them peeling away with time and heat/cold. Was at my now favorite bone yard and came across a pristine set of gauges. I know you are...

    Air vent valve replacement

Ok, thanks for pics but the plate where the actuaror and spring connects are not the same on this new one I have. The connection points are not offset. So I guess I cannot use it and will just rebuild the old one with new sealing foam.

Remove speedometer needle or sync new odometer

For those of you wanting to brighten up your florescent orange needles, go to a hobby store and buy Testers model paint. I used it and it turned out great. Took about 4 coats for good coverage, but looks like new. Just an FYI!!!

    Air vent valve replacement

Ok, has anyone replaced their air vent valve on a like/near 1978 Silverado C10 with air with this replacement part? How do I attach the actuator and spring. Pictures attached. If so, could you please send instruction/pictures. Or, maybe I just need to rebuild my original with new vent seal.

Remove speedometer needle or sync new odometer

I saw something somewhere that the speedo needle twisted off. So I tried that with the one from the yard and it came off. I then use a trick I saw somewhere (I am a member of several sites) to use a fork. For the smaller needles I used that. Position the post of needle in the last opening of...

Remove speedometer needle or sync new odometer

Okay, thanks. I decided that trying to remove the speedo, and all other gauge needles, was less an ordeal than dealing with the odometer. And as luck would have it, I was able to transfer all my new, brightly, painted needles to the new gauges without issue. Wasn't hard at all, just have to...
