    Voltage issues

Could my issue be a ground issue? With 6+ shims being under one side of the starter? I have a starter brace on the way that should add another ground to the block and support the starter. I’m currently at work I’ll have to check the voltage later and have someone else crank the truck while I...

For testing the negative is the probe going to same spot on starter or? I understand testing positive but slight confusion on testing negative

    Voltage issues

Nothing is corroded, starter has <2000 miles on it and all other connections are new. I know my lights dim when trying to crank so I’m gonna try a new battery tomorrow. Any idea about the heat issue in the other truck? Fires instantly cold but if you shut it off when it’s up to temp it cranks...

    Voltage issues

I don’t think my multimeter is capable of testing amperage I don’t have the little clip piece, but I can check voltage drop during cranking to see if the battery is just ready to retire

    Voltage issues

I’m watching a video about testint starter draw, the first thing you said to search just showed up how to find parasitic draws leaving you with a dead battery. My battery isn’t dead it just won’t crank. Voltage is fine but amps or somethint isnt

    Voltage issues

I’ll have to check into that I knew it was possible just couldn’t remember how to check it. I know how to check ground resistance etc but amps I’m not so familiar with.

    Voltage issues

The voltage gauge shows 12 before cranking and after cranking but falls on its face during. If the headlights or anything are on you can forget about it even turning over. Does this sound more like a bad battery or a bad connection? I haven’t had the issue until lunch time today.

    Voltage issues

Corrosion inside the negative might be possible but I haven’t had this issue until today, the battery cable ends are new the connection on alternator bracket has been redone, I added an 8ga direct battery to frame ground, and redid the head to firewall ground strap. So far none of those have...

    Voltage issues

Here’s a video, it cranked slow then caught then lost it and eventually just stopped. Battery showed 12.6 on multimeter after cranking.

    Voltage issues

Replaced alternator with the used one I took out of the 76, it’s charging perfect currently running at 13.7-14.4(headlight on at idle) but shut it off and it barely cranks again. I redid the positive battery cable end, the ground from passenger cylinder head to firewall, added a ground from...

    Voltage issues

Just started the 76, sat about a half hour after not wanting to turn over and it fired right up, it’s voltage gauge showed little under the straight up mark at idle and showed little above off idle.

    Voltage issues

According to my research the timing appears to be 4-6° btdc which seems little lesser than “too advanced” Edit: timing was checked at 650 idle with vacuum advance on full manifold vacuum @ 20 inhg and battery unhooked running off alternator at 16v.

    Voltage issues

I don’t understand how the timing could all of a sudden be too advanced, I slightly regarded it and sent a photo of where it’s at. I can’t read the tab or I’d say degrees.

Timing is around here I bought a new timing light

    Voltage issues

Also, starter on the 78 is new I broke the nose cone on the previous starter. Maybe a year old. Battery is maybe 5 or so it was out of my old truck before I got hit by a gravel truck.

    Voltage issues

Negative, stock exhaust manifolds on all three of my trucks. I redid the grounds on the 78, where is the ground from block to frame? I redid the alternator bracket to battery and added a battery to frame 8ga wire.

    Voltage issues

I think part of the slow crank on the 78 is also due to heat I just cranked it and it cranked faster than earlier at lunch. It cranked about two rotations before it fired up. I added a new 8 gauge ground directly to frame trying to help. Any other ideas? I redid the ground at the alternator...

    Voltage issues

I can replace both of them without an issue they’re both old. But if that doesn’t resolve my issue… where else could it be? My 76 won’t crank after it’s been warmed up. It acts like a dead battery and it’s got a brand new alternator with maybe 3 miles on it(yard driving haven’t insured it yet...

    Bent clutch linkage

I’m not positive about alternator wiring it looks to be original and not hacked up, if you tell me what to look for I’ll look. Yes it’s a 78 k10 sm465/np205. I replaced motor mounts but I haven’t gotten to transmission mounts since I might have to pull the trans over starter issues I found a...

    Voltage issues

It’s me with yet another problem, 1978 Chevrolet K10 bonanza with a 350/sm465/np205. Just got done reshimming the starter for the 8th time and truck fired right up this morning and fired up again leaving work but I filled up with fuel and it’s a slow slow crank but after a few seconds it’ll...

    Bent clutch linkage

I plan on replacing everything if I have to pull the trans, it’s dripping from like the rear of the trans aswell I think it’s gear oil or trans fluid it stinks, and it’s a silicon seal like it’s been apart before. I don’t feel like six shims is right

    Bent clutch linkage

Well considering the inspection plate is missing and part of the bell housing has been trimmed away it’s very possible debris has gotten into the clutch. I haven’t changed the clutch or anything yet but I plan on replacing the flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing, all...

    Bent clutch linkage

Changed motor mounts and rebuild the Zbar thing. Everything has been going fairly smoothly although I do still have a little shutter at some points when taking off in first, not low, it’s usually at beginning of pedal so could that be possible clutch slipping or? It’s not the engine moving by...

    Bent clutch linkage

Here’s a video of the motor mount movement with a pry bar, I got two new ones and I’m replacing them tonight. I fixed the pivot ball last night and cleaned the zbar and put new grease in it.
