    Stumble under quick wot

I bumped timing up and I’m letting it idle and warm up right now to mess with idle mix. It’s currently at 20inhg it’s steady but not like frozen steady. It’s a small gauge and you can see it jitter just a tiny amount less than half 1inhg. Idle is currently at about 850, I’ll have to bring that...

@Rusty Nail I want to get an afr gauge but with my current exhaust there isn’t much point. That would be a later on item. The manifold flange to the down pipe is leaking on both sides. Would need new manifolds and exhaust to fix it, it’s beyond a gasket or donut fixing it.

Change vac advance to manifold and adjust mix screws and I’ll have to update tomorrow at lunchtime after driving. I cannot verify timing I explained I don’t have an adjustable timing light so thirty is just a guess. I don’t know how to tell what it’s at after it’s off the tab. Edit: is the...

I understand saying things backwards but make sure you know what you said before saying I can’t follow directions. I used to have one of those nicer timing lights with the knob to adjust timing. It’s somewhere between work and home in the ditch. My current setup does not have the adjustment so...

    Stumble under quick wot

If you want to see more of what it’s doing, This was the drive home from work, if you lay into the throttle around 2000 rpms it’ll stumble a little and if you stay in it it does calm down or if you let out a little and get back on it it smooths out. And here’s a pull in the rain I don’t have...

    Stumble under quick wot

Actually @Ricko1966, in post 5 you said “move vacuum advance to ported” I followed what you said the first time. No reason to make it out like I can’t follow directions if you can’t give them. My only thing with the ported vs manifold is vacuum drops out and pulls timing with you get into...

I’ve had this carb apart before but I don’t remember the factory jet size or anything related, it’s all still factory settings. I’ll have to dig out the book and read up some. I agree I can’t concentrate on much of anything.

I believe the accelerator is still in the middle I haven’t changed it. If I set it to the least would that effect the secondaries as well? I’d invest in an afr gauge but that’s a lot of work for my current exhaust it just doesn’t make it worth it.

How would I adjust the off idle mix? Metering rods and jets?

Goodwrench crate engine smoking from passenger side exhaust

I bought the truck because it was flooding out and dying. I fixed the pushrod issue and the timing is off I can’t get it to idle long enough to set timing. I know the base gasket is a vacuum leak but I’ve got different carbs I can throw on to get it running better

Goodwrench crate engine smoking from passenger side exhaust

The plugs look like that prior to me touching anything. I replaced intake gaskets when I put the new pushrod in. How do I verify that? I don’t need this engine to be perfect yet, but just need to make sure it’s worth putting effort into. The carb is absolutely flooding out currently. Fuel...

Goodwrench crate engine smoking from passenger side exhaust

I googled it and it said it won’t make a big enough difference all it does it let more air in and I was mainly looking for a dead cylinder. They all have compression within 25. With one being highest and two/six being lowest. What do I move onto now since it’s got compression? Now can I touch...

Actually I stand corrected. I forgot a step in the compression test. I did not hold it wot. How much difference does that make

Goodwrench crate engine smoking from passenger side exhaust

This is a dry test just cranking cylinders. Could be some gasoline in there however. I did notice a few plugs were soaked with fuel. Truck has been sitting a week now. I redid the gap on all the plugs to .037 as I couldn’t get 35. I noticed one was way open on the passenger side and one was...

In which part? I leaned it some since I played with the timing. I did about a quarter turn in on each screw

Here’s videos from this morning. In the second video with the revs you can hear when I quickly wot it tries to die if I stay in it it will shake and sputter and eventuslly bring the rpm up. In the driving video I was laying into the throttle in the long straight, up hills it doesn’t seem...

    Stumble under quick wot

Truck started this morning and made the journey to work, going up hills it still doesn’t want to gain much speed but it maintains speed a little better. It takes off a little better in the straights, not like my tbi does, but better than before. Currently sitting at idle, warm, at 20-21 inHg...

It’ll have to be this afternoon before I can get pics I’m about to drive the truck to work. Maybe I’ll be able to get on it a little in the straights. As for top speed in second, roughly 50mph at 3500ish. I’ve got small tires though, like a 255/55/15 or something.

    Stumble under quick wot

The accelerator pump is set at the original location I believe it can be moved once in either direction. The timing tan I have is the 12’ o clock one with the tube and up down notches. It’s set as far advanced as the tab shows. Should be around 12ish(lost my good timing light that was...

I don’t usually floor it I drive the truck fairly easy most of the time staying under 3k rpms. I just want the ability to take off if I need to instead of the stumble. Like prior if I’d lay into the throttle going up a hill it would barely maintain speed to get to the top. Fastest the truck...

    Stumble under quick wot

1978 Chevrolet K10 350/sm465. Today I replaced my distributor because the vacuum advance didn’t work and I was hoping this would solve my issue. So if I’m sitting at idle and just stomp it to the floor it kinda stumbles. Timing should be around 12-14° I can’t read the tab just counted the...

Goodwrench crate engine smoking from passenger side exhaust

I get where he’s coming from, but the qjet I cleaned wasn’t for this truck just figured later could throw it on. I’ll have the tester this afternoon to get some compression readings. #1 has compression verified from the finger test but that’s as far as I got.
