Stick,Mig, Carbon Arc, Gas, and now Tig. Let's talk.

You're right. I was referring to stick welding. This was how welding was presented to me also, 1976 Grade 10 shop class in high school. Back when they actually taught us something useful. You have to learn how to carry a pool of molten metal. Good practice for tig welding. I know...

    About differentials

? The only front diffs in 88-91 were D60s on the crew cabs and probably 10 bolt on the Blazer/Jimmy/Suburban. The gen 5 that arrived in 88 was independent (car suspension). Right?

    Mounting tires at home

Well up here they don't r&r without balancing, and with over $20 each and taxes it becomes $100. So out comes my iron tires. They work better than tire irons.

Stick,Mig, Carbon Arc, Gas, and now Tig. Let's talk.

You just have to be sure you're really grounded, like a copper rod up your ass grounded to earth and should be good to go! I did a big stainless tig job in the 80's. Welded up some boiler parts, al n the bench. But the welder was a sine wave and a big bulky torch with no water cooling. It was...

Stick,Mig, Carbon Arc, Gas, and now Tig. Let's talk.

Well now there's mig with pulse... like solid state tig has had for a while. Want to weld tin foil? Not exactly but... Tig has the potential to produce the best quality weld of strength and aesthetics... but not without a skilled operator. With a less than skilled operator than it's mig for...

    Let's talk ROLL BARS

The bars for stepsides mounted over the frame rails. One could make long rectangle 'U bolts' to clamp to the frame. But then if you wheel in the rocks and twist the truck up the actual 'show bar' probably would start complaining. It's really not enough to stiffen a frame from flexing, and not...

    Let's talk ROLL BARS

The older ones where made from one piece of tubing (the main hoop). Then later ones came out that were in sections so they were more viable for shipping. These were usually a lighter gauge steel as well. Fully 'show' bars.

For your absorption and contemplation I bring you a rumination of the reverie of burnt cats on toast

Yeah that looks pretty fricken nice Craig... I was speaking from my own experiences... that's all. Oh and btw, I still make a crossover whenever I get an exhaust together on one of my trucks.

Welding in the H pipe leaves another place for rust to form and eventually leak... and then need repair. It just never ends!

    New engine break-in method

I was thinking of a crate motor... Or any mill that I didn't assemble. I can't get the moly cam grease anymore, just a red liquid stuff and it makes me nervous the way it runs off.

    New engine break-in method

I agree with your post almost 100%. Priming the engine I think is good when the assembled short block has been sitting for a long time. But if I just buttoned it up, fill the oil filter before it's installed and get on with it.

    New engine break-in method

I'll never lug a new engine, but I will stand on it after the 20 minute cam break in. Nothing worse than rings not seating and they need pressure for that. I think heat cycling can be a good idea. It's certainly a good prelude to retorquing the intake and exhaust (header) bolts.
