    10-bolt worth?

A ten bolt...? Give it away for free or eventually you will end up paying to haul it away.

Can I use my stock 454 intake???

Gosh through the '70s and half of the 80's I drove my carbs in minus 40 (Saskatchewan). Pump it 4 or 5 times and it starts, high idle. They ran great. TBI was one one of the first and one of the worse, jamming this technology down our throats.

Can I use my stock 454 intake???

I agree, he should just rebuild the filthy thing with compression and a set of 781 or 49s.. and then stroker to 496.

    long bed mod

The wooden bed deck will not be as loud as metal, ..... when you get a load of gravel dumped in. You also have the advantage of screwing in hooks or eyes for securing loads.

    383 vortec high compression

High compression is fine for low rpm and torque. That's all in the cam. But to be fair, my personal experience with this was running propane. A torque cam with heads that flow enough to support 700 hp (BB 781 or 449, larger valves and open bowls), twin Impco 425 'pane carbs and what a wonderful...

    how long does polyurethane last?

If you strip the interior (carpet, underlay) from your truck and drive it around with the rubber cab mounts... then switch to poly you will hear a lot more road noise. They transfer vibration and sound much more 'efficiently'.

    Re-gear talk again 4.10 or 4.56

4.56. The 700 likes to be revved, they lubricate and cool better. You can upgrade to a 350/383 and run a little taller tire with these gears.

Weird bumping at full lock with 4wd

Yes we have the little bastard bugs called chiggers. But on logging roads old loggers call protruding rocks 'chiggers'. A lesson in political correctness here.. By the late 80's the logging industry was effected by PC. They used to call protruding rocks '****** heads'. Even BC Forestry's road...

Weird bumping at full lock with 4wd

When I'm on tight logging roads or skid trails my hand is almost always on the TC lever. I'm in and out of 4x all the time. Those switchbacks on logging roads for example. But I use 4x on these roads all the time, even if it seems I don't need the traction. There's so much washboard and...

Weird bumping at full lock with 4wd

A U joint in the axle is seizing. I try to never turn to full lock when my 4x is locked in. When those knuckles are turned the joint opens up and is at it's weakest position. Now is the time for you to get the front end rebuilt. Both U joints should be done and while it's apart wheel bearings...

    Headers and Exhaust

Yes you 'fit' them before you install them. Don't be afraid to bang clearance dents in them. Also you may very well need to reroute or move your starter wires out of the way. I like to clean up my starter and apply heat reflective tape on the side nearest a header tube. Also check for wrench...

    Tire size?

Also, as you know, a 4x4 with a lift spring will move the wheel back as the suspension compresses. I'm mentioning this for anyone else dropping in.. As for trimming your fenders, have you had your cab off recently? If your body mounts are in good shape, if the hardware is not rusted up, you...

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

Digging in my memory hole, no I'm not sure. I've seen both sides of this argument though. Best I recall is the very slightly thicker rails. And then, there are all the micro and macro variations that appeared with no explanations lol.

    lift advice 4" (1 Ton)

You can tune those Tuff Country HDs with a zip disc. Take .5" off both ends of the little bottom leaf. Keep trimming until you notice a difference. That bottom spring afaik is the HD difference.

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

The 20 frame is a slightly thicker metal and he wants to haul. Other than that they are the same as well the front diff is also the same. Rear on a 10 is a ... 10 bolt. UNLESS it's a Heavy Half or Big Ten then they MIGHT have the 14 bolt. Also have to watch out for K20swith the 9" semi...

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

To be clear the men I have held in my lap while they cried (twice) were trying this with C20s, not C30s. So I don't know or have considered this on a one ton. And yes the stock flat springs (convex after a few miles down the road from the dealership) would not move the shackle backwards. But to...

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

I get that but I still think you're best off to find another truck. That B52 conversion is much more than just a bolt on an go. Lot's of farting around and as i mentioned before, often guys find they need to trim and adjust the front brackets. I think best to leave this setup for those who want...

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

I can't answer that. Depends on a price for 4x4 chassis. If you go with a B52 kit, you still need rear springs. Finding them in a junk yard is a gamblke because good chances they have been worked and are worn or sacked. You would need longer shocks, and good shocks cost more. Shocks are like...

    2WD to 4x4 conversion?

We have lots of rust here too, and yes the Fords didn't hold up as well as GM products back then.
