Ignition Cylinder
If you mean the lock cylinder, it's not too hard to replace, but you need to pull the steering wheel to do it. Most auto parts stores loan specialty tools. You will need a steering wheel puller and a tool to remove the lock plate under the steering wheel. -

Missing vin on k10 can they be swapped over from a parts truck with most of the parts?
In South Dakota you are supposed to take the vehicle and proof of ownership for the parts swapped along with the title and have it inspected by the DMV. I asked when I planned to do a body swap on one of my trucks. Mine would have been easy as I had titles to both trucks (haven't done it yet).- SDJunkMan

Sounds good. I have a spot weld cutter, but need to order a new cutter for it, it lost a tooth. Definatly have to put sound dampener and insulation on the firewall while it's out. It doesn't look like there is much room to get a drill in there. -

I will probably pull the windshield anyways as I plan to paint the truck, not to mention welding next to the rubber seal would be hard to do without catching it on fire. I had unbolted a dash on a truck that I was junking and when it wouldn't come out I said the heck with it, so I figured it... -

How did you get your dash out? I thought they were welded in. I thought about replacing a hacked one that's in one of my trucks. -
Military 6.2
They supposedly put isolated ground alternators in both positions so you may have one on the left that you can move to the right then use a standard alternator on the left. Mine still has the stock wiring, just had the starter rebuilt, so will probably stay with the 24 volt system. I may...- SDJunkMan

It looks like the left alternator can be replaced with a civilian alternator, but the right has to have an isolated ground. A 84 Eldorado alternator is supposed to be the same, but it needs to be modified to an isolated ground if used on the right side. Might be better off having yours rebuilt...- SDJunkMan

I am pretty sure the alternators are not the same, they have an isolated ground to enable the 24 Volt system. The glow plug relay is also originally 24 volt. Many have been swapped over to 12 volt. I will see if I can find some part numbers for you.- SDJunkMan

Military K5 exhaust
The exhaust is probably only part of the problem. CUCV's didn't have any insulation on the floor, hood, or rear quarter panels, making it very loud inside. Supposedly the J code engine used in them is louder then the civilian 6.2. If it's like mine, some of the grommets on the firewall are...- SDJunkMan

How much is the drive line and frame 3/4ton worth
If it has 8 lug wheels, it's not a shortbed. If it has a 5 speed, that's probably a NV4500, popular for an upgrade, and worth a few bucks, although I didn't think they had a granny gear.- SDJunkMan

Options for beds - aftermarket, used, new, substitutions
Another source is that a lot of older trucks were cut down and made into trailers when they crapped out. Usually it was done with one that still had a decent bed on it. I have one myself that I use for firewood. I've seen several that were made out of an old squarebody on Craigslist, even saw... -

Look over the electrics, these have unique 12/24 volt systems and if the wiring has been cobbeled up they can be a nightmare.
