    I melted a Piston, 250 Inline 6.

I actually did that on a Ford 300 that broke a rocker stud on a road trip from New Orleans to Detroit in the middle of the night. Pulled the pushrods and plug on the bad cylinder and drove it several hundred miles. Replaced the head when I got to Detroit, and everything was fine. Of course I...

    86 C20 SM465 to NV4500 swap

Welcome! I too am thinking about a NV4500 swap, but I am planning to do it on a 4x4. Doing it on a 2 wheel drive should be pretty straight forward if you are already set up with a hydraulic clutch. Two of the major problems I have found are mating the transfer case and clearance between the...

What have you done to your square lately??

I assume an electronic speedometer doesn't have a cable going to it? (I've never seen one). I'll check when I get it home and let you know.

Harbor Freight recalls 454,000 jack stands

Since the stickers are missing from mine, I dug out the reciept and mine are a different number than the recalled ones. I am thinking about modifying them to add a locking pin like the strongway stands have.

What have you done to your square lately??

Haven't done anything to it yet, but just picked up a 89 Burb with a blown engine for parts. My trailer has some stuff on it, and I am working the next couple of days, so I probably won't be able to pick it up until Tuesday. Its supposed to have a recently rebuilt tranny, which I need for my...

Harbor Freight recalls 454,000 jack stands

I have some gray ones but no labels on them so how do I know if they are the ones in the recall? It wouldn't break my heart to return them since I just picked up a nice used set of 6 ton Walkers.

    GOV rebuilt 4-53 Detroit?

It depends on if you have a use for one, a 4-53 is not a very popular engine anymore.

    No way this is right?

That looks like an adapter plate under the carb, the hose probably went to the stock air cleaner. A 78 did not come with serpentine belts.

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

Damm, the plow on that truck weighs just under 2000 pounds! I had the same plow on a Unimog and had to run a 2400 pound counterweight on the rear. I hope the frame has been beefed up.

Door Plastics and door glass questions.

The door panel is probably beyond repair, once they get that brittle they will keep breaking. The rear glass is different, glass from the rear doors of a crew cab should be the same though. It seems like they changed the thickness of the glass in the early 80's, but I am not sure what year...

Need creative spare tire relocation ideas / building an in bed mount for cheap

Dam, I need one of those dump bed conversion kits! Sure would make unloading firewood a lot easier. Does it just attach to the stock bed or is there an extra frame added?

    24 volt CUCV

When the trucks were new both alternators were isolated ground, but the truck only requires one on the left (drivers) side. When the left alternator crapped out, it was easy to swap the isolated ground alternator from the right side, and put a normal non isolated ground alternator back in the...

    Driver Side Alternator?

A CUCV (military squarebody) had dual alternators, one on each side, but those were 6.2 diesels, so I don't know if the brackets could be made to work. I would include a pic, but am at work right now.

    24 volt CUCV

That's what I have been told. The Steel Soldiers forum is a good source for information. They have a lot of the military tech manuals availible, and alot of experienced people that are very helpful.

    24 volt CUCV

It is actually a 12/24 volt system. The 12 volt side was primilarily there to power radios and other military electronics. The starter is 24 volt but the lights, gauges, and heater are all 12 volt. Unless the original wiring has been hacked, it works fine. It does take a little more work...

How... do you build a stepside?

If you mean the cross braces, LMC sells them, as I assume some of the other suppliers also may. https://www.lmctruck.com/1973-87-chevy-gmc/bed-tailgate/cc-1973-87-stepside-steel-bed-panels

How... do you build a stepside?

Hey Rusty, we're doing fine, daughter in law (lives in Denver) may have a mild case of covid, but it hasn't hit in our area yet (6 cases). Sorry to hear that your girlfriend has the covid crap. Waiting for the weather to break so I can get to some of my projects. Looks like we will be...

How... do you build a stepside?

There are bolts that go thru the wood, crossbraces, and finally the top lip of the frame. Seems like there were 8 of them. You can see tabs on the rear crossmember (top of picture) and some larger holes in the wood where some of the other crossmembers went. The bolts had a carriage head and...
