6.5 Turbo reliability for an RV?

Yeah, that is my gut feeling too. I had a mechanic friend who has a lot of 6.5 experience float the idea to me. I think first thing I should do is look for a better radiator. The 454 runs really strong and is a lot of fun to drive.

6.5 Turbo reliability for an RV?

A little background first: I have a '78 P30 Itasca class A motorhome with a 454, th400, and 4.56 gears with 235 85R16 tires. Currently the 454 runs like a top and I really have no complaints other than when I am towing a trailer with a couple ATV's on it or pulling my enclosed fish house...

    4x4 Crewcab weight

I suppose I could start a thread. I posted a pic a while back, maybe on my suburban build thread showing the motorhome.

    77 K10 LS Swap

Yeah, Napa Gold filters are made by Wix. As soon as I saw your pic of the plugged up pickup tube with filter material, I was thinking "I bet that was a Fram filter." Wix/Napa Gold are darn good filters.

    4x4 Crewcab weight

    My '78 P30 Itasca motorhome has 4.56's and 235 85 16's (31.7" diameter) and it runs around 3200 RPM's at 65 mph. TH400 transmission. I like @bucket 's idea of finding a 6.0. THEN turbo that. :headbang:

What brand oil filter have you been using?

Filling a k10 wheel well, best wheel to tire ratio

Maybe he turned them in? I have to tell our local tire shop to put the white letters out or they automatically put them in. I'm thinking I must be out of style now days.

    383 Stroker or 6.0 LS??

    Probably was 235 75R 15's. They are about a 29" tire I think.

Low hanging fruit to improve performance - request for input

I agree with previous posts. Start with the basics, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, etc. What transmission do you have? What is the rear end gear ratio? That is a nice survivor! The battery hold down is missing, so I think he was referencing you should get one so your battery doesn't...

That's a nice pickup, btw. :rockit:

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

Wouldn't hurt to run spacers. That does look kind of close. I have seen that some brands of tires are a bit wider than others. I have never been around the Falkens before. I ordered a set of Treadwright 265 75 16's for a soil sampling truck I have and they were not any wider than the 235 85's...

1979 Crew Cab Dually 496 - Tire Wizard Needed

235 85R 16's are a very common tire size on duallys. That is what I put on my P30 chassis 78 motorhome. Most of the chevy C30's from that era came with 7.50-16's and they are pretty close to a 235 85 16. 215's are shorter, so I would stick with the 235s. Just make sure you have enough air in...

Bench and Bucket Seat Track Identification

That is what I was hoping to try. I will have to pull them out and look it over.

Bench and Bucket Seat Track Identification

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead again. I have been going through the seat threads and haven't really found an answer to what I am wanting to do. I have a split bench seat out of a 92 GMT 400 extended cab pickup. I would like to put it in my 90 suburban in place of the...

    383 Stroker Suburban MPG

Our bone stock (for now) 1990 TBI 350 4x4 suburban is probably lucky if it breaks 13 mpg combined mileage. I wouldn't expect much better than that with a 383. That is why I suggested a BBC earlier because it probably wouldn't be all that much worse on gas and the power potential is so much...

    1990 454 SS Pickup

A remote would be a great feature so you don't have to lean way over all the time to reach the radio.

    1990 454 SS Pickup

Is the Pioneer radio in the parts burb better than the JVC you have in the pickup? I liked the Pioneers I had back in the 90's.

    Transmission Options

The 300 was in a 95 F150 4x4 with a 5 speed and the 302 was in a 93 F150 with the A4OD. Both had 3.55 gears and 31X10.50 15's. The 300 got better mileage and had more power than the 302. Granted, the 302 would rev to the moon and had dual exhaust with glass packs, so it sounded like it was...

    Transmission Options

I have had both 300's and 302's in pickups. I'm not a big Ford guy, but the 300 I6 was a heck of a good engine. IMHO the 302 was the worst pickup engine I have ever been around. No bottom end power at all and terrible gas mileage. Alway had to have your foot in it. The 351 W was pretty...

    Manual to auto swap.

Definitely should re-gear it, especially if you are doing any towing. I don't think the np205 was ever offered with a 700R4. Ideally, looking for a 4L80E would be the best towing friendly OD transmission.

    383 Stroker or 6.0 LS??

The longer stroke of a 383 probably would make more bottom end torque if you get the right cam and flat top pistons so you have decent compression. I would bet that a 454 bbc with the gear ratio you have mated to a 4L80E would be comparable economy to a built 383 and would tow better cross...

    Transmission Options

Torque is the name of the game for pickups. That turbo'd 250 torque curve is flat, flat, flat. That would be an awesome setup. Now I want to find a 250..... :boxing:

What color is this Green? I need some help

That is an awesome color. I also like the saddle interior upgrades that you did. Very nice contrast to the green.
