Swapping the SM465 for a Car style 4 speed

There is a whole different set of things to think about going with a NV3500 like hydraulic clutch, electric speedometer and then with an OD transmission, 3.08 gears are too tall. I like the Saginaw idea better for what you are looking to do. NV3500 are smooth shifting, had one in a '90 1/2 ton...

    Horrendous gas mileage issue.

If the pickup was re-geared at some point, is the speedometer accurate? How are you figuring your gas mileage? I would agree with @potent rodent that the Qjet is the best carb for economy while still also a good performance carb. How hard do you drive it? If you foot is in the carb all the...

    1987 Chevy V10 Suburban 350 V8 4X4 Cruise Control Servo??

Might have to try this. The cruise doesn't work in our '90 suburban either and I'm pretty sure the servo is to blame.

    Headache rack ideas

Yes, much better than a lot of aftermarket racks that are more for looks than anything. That one actually looks it is meant for real work, like hauling pipe.

Scores from DIY Parts Yards, Pull A Part, U Pull It etc

Dad and I rebuilt that 327 out of the C50 and put it in my '68 C10, replacing a worn out 307. That 327 is impressive. Seems to be a sweet spot with the 4" bore and 3.25" stroke. I love how it revs and seems to have a really flat torque curve for a small cubic inch engine. It has flat top...

Scores from DIY Parts Yards, Pull A Part, U Pull It etc

Our company has a '68 C50 that originally came with a 327 and a 2 barrel carb. The medium duty truck 327's have steel cranks.

    Suburban barn door glass seals

I need to replace the glass in the rear barn doors on our '90 Suburban. I would like to order new seals for the glass. I looked them up on LMC and they are $30 and Brothers have them too for $45. Is there any difference in quality between rubber parts from LMC and Brothers? I checked with...

    Bvllsh!t on craigslist.

That pickup is cool. My grandpa's oilfield company had lots of long box stepsides in the 70's. Many of them looked just like that with headache racks on them. The company pickups usually had 6 cylinders and 4 speed manuals. Wish I could find a long box stepside around here for sentimental...

    What do y’all think?

I still like the 31's and steel wheels with hubcaps. Doesn't look like you are trying too hard to be cool. haha, but that's just me. 33's with a little lift look good too but there are some compromises maybe .....what gears do you have?

4x4 shifting question from a noob

You can shift into 4H for situations like that, don't have to use 4L every time you need four wheel drive.

    1985 Monte Carlo SS

Yeah, I had an 86 Monte Carlo in high school. Wire wheel covers, vinyl top, hood ornament and all. Looked pretty grandma-ish when I first got it, but found some rally wheels off a Cutlass and put dual exhaust on it and that helped. Was my favorite car. I had a neighbor who had a silver SS. I...

First truck, first restoration. Should be fun. 1979 Scottsdale k10

230+ HP is pretty easy to get from a 350. I vote to take the block in and have it bored out and rebuild it. That is the best way to learn. My dad and I overhauled several small blocks together back in the 90's when I was in high school. Flat top pistons, a good set of heads, torque cam...

    General question about transmissions

Also some pickups had the NP833/440 4 speed OD side loader manual. Those are fairly rare though.

1981 Motorhome - Whats under its... err.. tunnel?

I had a 1978 Winnebago Brave on a Dodge chassis with a 440 and 727 with a GearVender in it a few years back. Pretty sure it was not a factory option though. That thing would cruise at 80 mph down the interstate like nothing.

How bad is the current 350? Did you get it all tore down and checked? What is your budget?

    EGR Valve and dual exhaust

Did a little more investigating tonight. I squeezed the egr valve with the engine idling and it stumbled, so I believe the passages are open in the intake. I pulled the wiring plug off the egr solenoid and I have 12v at the plug. I then used the multi-meter to check the ohms on the solenoid...

best 10 Bolt gears for highway and low end torque

If you do have 4.56s and are putting in a SM465, a Ranger OD unit would be cool. Ability to split gears and have an OD.
