Ok, so no paperwork on the new cab but does it have a vin plate?
It is legal for you or you're authorized agent to remove it to do repairs. So you aren't breaking the law (my opinion) if you have a bill of sale for the cab and know the vin number so the police can search to see if it's stolen...
Looking for an aftermarket patch panel for adding a square factory fuel door in a bedside. I've seen one listed somewhere before but now that i need one, I can't find it anywhere.
Has anyone out there come across one before?
What are your plans for it? I see a few good parts that you could sell for a few bucks it you wanted to part it out. the bed isn't a square body bed but would have some value.
I personally wouldn't consider restoring it.
Do you have the title for it? the vin tag rivets don't like original.
Here's a link to a complete bed, http://nsanehotrodz.mybigcommerce.com/1979-87-gm-truck-short-fleet-bed-kit-w-steel-floor/
but you're better off finding a used one and doing some bodywork if needed. you'll be money ahead and it will be real steel.
HotRodPC did a good write up on tailgate repair that might help.

I'm stumped, I was thinking it looked like Dodge vin but that didn't work when I tried to run it.
Is the tag still on the door jam?
I'm in NY with vin issues too, so I feel your pain.
Looking for a recommendation for an air hose that is will stay flexible in the cold. Whatever I got now is so stiff it's almost impossible to use below 30°
What material should I be looking for?
Thanks
I recently bought a colored wiring diagram from Classic Car Wiring. https://www.classiccarwiring.com/chevytruck/
I won't get around to comparing it to the actual wiring in the 78 till spring to tell ya if it's accurate or not.
The bed bolts together. The bed sides inner and outer panels are welded together then bolt to the floor and the front panel. There are two small welds where the rear stake pocket meets the floor easy to cut with a grinder.
Looks like another weld on the leg down, behind the tailgate trunion
