Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

Got the rear diff drained and filled. I went with full synthetic gear oil in 75w140. Cleaned and degreaser the cover and bolts, and then painted the cover and bolt heads with some Rustoleum black spray on bed liner. I also drained and filled the transfer case. I used motor oil, since that's...

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

I get you, but man that is going to be really hard to get to. With a 6" lift, 35" tires, and the fact that it's clear at the back and behind the engine, I'm not sure how I'll reach it. Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

I did more digging. Mine has a tan wire in the location on the junction box you indicated. I can't seem to find where it goes though. It's inside of a wire protector with other wires, and goes over behind the back of the engine and I don't see any wires coming out of it. I think I'll just run a...

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

Very helpful. Thanks! Above somebody said a blue wire, but you're saying tan. But, since I know where it's supposed to plug in, I should be able to track it down now Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

No, I have a 69 and an 80. The truck I'm having the issue with is the 80 Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

How does the oil gauge function? Mine is pegged to the right

I decided to just go ahead and buy a new oil pressure switch. They don't cost much, and it sounds like they can definitely go out. Replacement looks easy enough. I've got doubts on how to wire this though. I can't find any wires dangling anywhere or that don't have a proper place. Can I just...

Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

Sounds like front and rear differentials call for the same fluid type, although I'll likely upgrade to the thicker fluid recommended here. Sounds like I'll need about 10 quarts total for both? Transfer case calls for motor oil. Any idea how much? Sent from my SM-T720 using Tapatalk

Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

Looks like the service manual for an 80 4x4 says to use motor oil. I figured the service manual would be much more specific about what transfer case and differentials I have, but it isn't. I'll post screen grabs below Sent from my SM-T720 using Tapatalk

Interesting observation of my thermostat/temperature gauge

I got this all fixed. I went ahead and replaced the lower radiator hose and clamps for good measure (already did the top recently). Did a better job this time of getting the air bubbles out, and she's good to go. Thanks for all the help Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

Do I need to change any gaskets when draining and filling the transfer case? I know I need a new gasket for the front diff and one for the rear, but not sure about the transfer case Sent from my SM-T720 using Tapatalk

Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

Is that 75w-140 the right one for the front diff as well? What about the transfer case? Sent from my SM-T720 using Tapatalk

Front and rear diff/transfer drain and fill

What weight gear oil should I run in the front? Any idea general capacity? How about the NP-205, as far as gear oil/fluid? Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

Here is my rear diff and rear wheel. Assuming that means I have a "14 bolt"? Does that mean I should use that weight gear oil you recommended? Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

Interesting observation of my thermostat/temperature gauge

Thanks guys. Seems like the air pocket is the easiest thing to look at first. Is this the procedure? Start truck when cold, remove radiator cap, put heater on hot/high/defrost. Idle until warm and coolant level in radiator drops. Fill coolant to top and put back on radiator cap Sent from my...

Interesting observation of my thermostat/temperature gauge

When I bought my truck, it didn't have a thermostat. The temp gauge was always way on the cold side and didn't budge. I bought a 160 degree thermostat, installed it, and flushed the radiator and put in new coolant. This brought the temp gauge to the middle, once the engine was warm, but it...

    Gauge light replacement

You might need a new circuit board. May as well do a total rebuild of your cluster while you have it out. Clean it, replace the bulbs, paint the needles, and replace the clear plastic lens Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

    Gauge light replacement

Yup. Just rebuilt my cluster and replaced all lights with 168's. While I was in there, I replaced the heater bulb and the washer bulb. Here's a Pic from my test ride before I put the dash trim back on. Turned out really nice, and I can see it easily Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk

Change your throttle cable. Makes a big difference

The throttle cable goes from the gas pedal, through the firewall, and to the carb. It's a steel line, inside of a plastic casing. After 40 years, the cable can rub the plastic off in areas, and create slack. NAPA has new cables for about $20. I decided to swap mine out, and when I got under the...

    Gauge needle

Good luck. They crumble like dust when you barely touch them. I haven't found anybody that sells just the needles. You have to buy the gauge just to get the needle. The only other option I know of is to buy used gauges and hope that they don't crumble. You can lift off the needle from the donor...
