    hydroboost

that's for bleeding the hydraulic side of the booster. for bleeding the brakes it's the same as any other brake system. many have their own preference on how to bleed brakes. basically they all will work if done right. highdesertranger

    Fuel line adapter

first off the fuel pump and carb have inverted flare fittings. so you need adapters from inverted flare to AN. the steel tubing you are replacing is 3/8's. which is -6 AN. OD is irrelevant. highdesertranger

    rebuilding advice sm465

if it works fine I would just reseal it. it's not that hard there are only a couple of gaskets and seals. there is no pressure in the trans so that wouldn't cause a leak. it's not overfilled is it? highdesertranger

New to square bodies '81 SM465 question

well you are not going to be able to down shift it at 30mph, but they will down shift. when you are down shifting wait until you are under 10mph then try let the clutch out a little. if this doesn't do it give it a little gas at the same time. this is very much a seat of the pants maneuver...

    HD suspension option

do not reuse the center bolt. any suspension shop will have them. auto part stores can get them, if they want to take the time. highdesertranger

hey Frankenchevy are you over on the diesel forum too? highdesertranger

    HD suspension option

good point about the center bolt. they must be replaced every time you remove one. the proper way to install them is to cut the excess 7/8's of the way through then break the rest off. this creates a burr so the nut can't back off. highdesertranger

    HD suspension option

I can tell because the 3rd spring up is a different configuration then all the others. highdesertranger

    Starter questions

if you want the best starter get one for a 1969 Chevelle SS 396 4 speed. they have a cast iron nose cone. they take the medium length bolts, get the correct AC Delco bolts. if you want a gear reduction starter get a brand new AC Delco. I have not had good luck with the aftermarket ones...

    12 bolt front axle

no worries but the D44 HD was never offered on 1/2 tons or Blazers and Jimmy's. only 8 lug 3/4 tons. highdesertranger

    12 bolt front axle

I don't know how Blazer's ever got brought into this as there were never any 3/4 ton Blazers. but I did look up 3/4 ton trucks and they are different between the HD and the later 44 and 10 bolts. highdesertranger

    12 bolt front axle

compare the inner wheel bearings. the HD is huge compared to the 1/2 ton or the later 3/4 ton. highdesertranger

    Temperature Gauge Reporting Wrong Temp?

infrared thermometers work good but keep in mind they will show about 10° below what the actual coolant temp is. before you start buying more stuff check your sending unit and your gauge, with this chart you can check the sending unit and the gauge. highdesertranger
