What was the cause of the door strap defect?

According to the reviews on Amazon, they're about 3 inches too short for our trucks. The door straps were useful on those land yachts with the 200lb doors. I think the design just carried over into the trucks, where it probably shouldn't have, because they appear to be decoration. You can shut...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

I found this, but I'm not sure about the fitment: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000CO971C/

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Another question: Is there anything else that I could make the door strap out of, that would somewhat resemble a factory strap? I know you could use just about anything but I'd like it to be conceivable that this improvised strap was factory. The reason is, I don't like the prices for all...

Proper process for painting most of your interior parts

Nice it's good to see someone doing some color, instead of just drab ol black. Most people seem to want to go to black, but the colors are what separates these old trucks from modern vehicles, which are mostly black. I'd love to have a truck with the green interior, and that orange looking interior.

How can I shield these electrical connections?

Yeah I wanted to use one of those flat oem fuse boxes from the auto salvage yard, but they're really not made to be worked on easily like the aftermarket stuff is.

How can I shield these electrical connections?

Wow thanks Ranchwelder, I did not expect such a reply! I will certainly revisit this thread when it's time to move that fusebox. You're right I could use some drip loops in there too. It's just a 2WD street truck though, but the way my luck works, water and gunk will find it's way in there...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Well I asked the guy if he'd make some that were slightly different, and he said no they're fine lol. So I guess using that image, I could just take the job to someone else and tell them to suck a half inch out of it. That way they wouldn't stick out quite so far, and would more closely...

How can I shield these electrical connections?

As you can see from the pic, this box is under the hood. I had to install a fuse box and relays in order to run the headlights and the power windows. The old stuff just kept failing and wasn't really up to the task anymore. Also I wanted a few extra relay and fuse slots on hand, for future...

    Inexpensive cup holders?

Seems like that one could still be useful even if you converted to bucket seats one day. I ended up going with this, because I wanted something minimal. It seems real solid, and it was cheap. Something off amazon made to fit in a GMC Acadia iirc. Coated it to match the interior with SEM's...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Looks nice but the angle is kinda steep on that one. I sent him a message asking if he could make them a little shorter. Could be a good idea if it had say... the middle section wrapped in leather. With only each end still showing the polished steel. With those mods, someone unfamiliar with the...

    Inexpensive cup holders?

I don't see how people are using the ashtray spot for that. Those doors/hinges were never known for being strong. More like easily bent. I don't think I'd be able to bring myself to stick that big double cup holder in there, then add a couple of heavy drinks. Seems like asking for problems.

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Yes I considered those. Some people want to use the strap when you'd rather they didn't. But it wouldn't complete the original look so I'll try the straps for awhile. If they don't work out I'll be switching to those with the strap delete.

Anybody considered hacking up these panels to fit silverado trim?

Nice job looks like it worked out well for you. Only thing is, I'd have one more thing to cut out. The area just above the armrest is fabric on the silverado. It's another insert, so it would that would have to be cut out. And I'm not sure how that would work out. Cause now the door handle part...

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

Yeah moving the occasional couch. It's kind of a nice resto mod truck. One of those where you don't want to damage the paint. But since I won't own a truck that can't be used as a truck, it still does most truck duties. And the old 350 is worn out. I've heard people say the 5.3L fuel economy...

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

Since cost isn't a huge factor here, maybe the 6.0 would be the better choice since it gets me closer to the goal from the beginning. Ricko19 is right those were weird numbers I threw out there. What I should have said is that I'd like to get close to 400hp and 400 torque. And I'd like to...

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

I believe my truck has 2:73's, but I could be wrong about that. It's the stock gearing. It will do 80 mph at around 1,800 RPM so it's probably the 2:73's. I currently have the 700R4 transmission. But that may become a 6L80e when it's time for the 5.3L swap. I still want to do 80 or 85 mph at...

Anybody considered hacking up these panels to fit silverado trim?

These panels are probably decent enough, like most of the aftermarket panels. But I've yet to find any that are correctly embossed for Silverado trim. The door fabric, and all the metal looking stuff won't fit. The "trim" is already molded into the new panel. So I was thinking of buying a set...

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

I want to do the 5.3L swap, but I'd like to add some power and torque before it goes in the truck. But there's two conditions: I don't want it to hurt the road manners, and I don't to harm the MPG. By road manners, I mean I don't want it to shake the truck at all. Just feel totally smooth like a...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Another way would be to have the screw go through the cap instead of under it. Wouldn't look very nice, but the cap wouldn't come off anymore. Maybe if you had chrome plated screws it might look ok.

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

Ah I see what you're saying now. Do you happen to have a link to the silicone you use? I'd end up getting the wrong kind, and they'd be welded on there. And have to be ground off or something. I have some stuck to my sink that I can not get off of there. It would probably damage the sink if I...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

I can't see the back of the panels at the moment so... Do the door-strap screws go into the steel door itself? Or just into the panel? If they go into the actual door, then you can't simply glue the caps down. Cause you'd be gluing them down over important screws. You might need to take those...

What was the cause of the door strap defect?

It's a typical problem with these old trucks. Where the chrome caps always pop off of the door straps. My truck was already missing the caps on both sides, so I wanted to ask what caused this common problem. And what could be done to prevent it from happening again. I want to buy new door-pull...

    Inexpensive cup holders?

These are pretty cool if you want your truck to look factory. You could easily stealth these and nobody would know they were there because they fold up when not in use. Mount them to something near the bottom of the bench seat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EDQR46/

    Inexpensive cup holders?

Hi all. I'm looking for a cup holder that goes at the front of the bench seat, and sits on the floor. Not one that plugs into the slot for the ash tray. I was thinking maybe I could just buy something like this, and alter it a bit so it would stay in place: https://www.ebay.com/itm/295485126875...
