How should I solve this starter problem

Yeah already replaced the negative battery cable for this reason. About 2 years ago. It was completely corroded inside. Now the problem appears again.

How should I solve this starter problem

I'll just start adding ground wires to alternator and starter and see what happens.

How should I solve this starter problem

Was thinking about this post - What exactly did you mean when you said "You may have fixed something"? I was always under the impression that tapping it was a temporary solution.

How should I solve this starter problem

It is a new AcDelco starter. I've heard parts quality has been suffering lately, but I had already bought the starter and just had it sitting on the shelf. There's a place in my town that rebuilds starters and alternators. Maybe I should take it to them? It would be nice to avoid paying the $45...

How should I solve this starter problem

Got an 87 truck with TBI 350. My starter has been giving me grief. Recently the started died, and the new replacement seems sluggish. Sometimes it won't muster the power to start the truck, it just does that slow turn-over thing. The one where it sounds like the battery is low. But I checked all...

Do aftermarket speaker mounts make 6x9's clear the cab?

Well that probably depends on the type of insulation you use. That butyl rubber with aluminum backing isn't likely to cause rust. If you don't like that stuff, you could always use the sprays, like Spectrum Sludge. So it would act more like a paint. Depending on where all you are able to spray...

Do aftermarket speaker mounts make 6x9's clear the cab?

I guess they probably also need a little speaker box to really do their job well. Like you see in some car door speakers. Forget what they call it but affects the sound. Just a bare speaker won't sound as good. All of this might require more fab than I thought. Maybe build the little box to fit...

Can I modify a window sweep with silicone?

Some of those weird tapes might be worth looking at. I don't think this is the right one, but maybe if there was one that had a non-adhesive backing. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0155KELRW/

Can I modify a window sweep with silicone?

Yeah that would be ideal, but the trouble is I ordered the seal too long ago. Now they don't want it back. Guess I've learned my lesson. When you order parts you have to install em now, or else!

Can I modify a window sweep with silicone?

If anyone is curious, the problem with this new seal is that the corner is not round. I looked at the driver's side, and it's just a round flowing corner in that area. This new one is angular, and it has a metal tab on the back, in the corner. So I'm guessing it's for some other vehicle, that...

Can I modify a window sweep with silicone?

It seems they sent me the wrong window felt for my 87 truck. Maybe it's for a van or something, I dunno. It's the window sweep, and you can see the problem in the pic. When the window meets at the top, there is still a gap where you can see light coming through. That's the only problem area, I...

    Window sweep doesn't quite fit

I bought the precision brand window sweeps for my 87, but as you can see from the image, one doesn't quite fit. I don't know if it's something wrong with the door, or my installation. The driver's side seal fits fine and works fine. In the top left of the pic, you can see that the window...

TBI backfire and dies at idle

Let me see if I have this right: I need to unplug the tan and black wire near the brake booster, and then set the timing. After setting the timing, plug the tan and black wire back in. Correct?

TBI backfire and dies at idle

Well I got some more time to work on the truck. The timing light shows that the timing is off. Looking at it while the engine is running, it's about 1.25, maybe 1.5 inches away from the mark. To me that seems like a lot. So here's my question: If I use the distributor to set the timing, what...

Where does the engine smoothness come from?

Got any tips on making it run even more smooth? If you had to take a TBI 350 and get it to run even smoother, what would you do? Next question: At what point to aftermarket parts upgrades affect the overall smoothness of the engine? And start to transfer vibration to the driver. I'm trying to...

Where does the engine smoothness come from?

Maybe this is something I'm imagining, I'll let yall tell me that. But when an older GM engine is running very well, it seems to be very smooth. Almost as though you're in a vehicle and the engine isn't running. But it is. I've noticed this seems to be even more apparent in with the TBI engines...

    I've come here to complain!

Yeah I do the same thing. It's really for the best, because if you don't do all that extra work, the antique truck is that much closer to falling apart. It's really preventative maintenance.

    I've come here to complain!

Yeah but damned if I didn't have a streak going. I used to have to do everything twice, didn't really matter what vehicle it was on. Slowly got better as the years went by, but the antique truck is giving me grief. LOL!

    I've come here to complain!

It doesn't matter what you do, if the lights are on the chime is on. Truck can be running. But I may as well use this thread to ask another question: What are all the different chimes you can get? In another thread, someone mentioned that some of the old cadillac door chimes sounded pretty...

    I've come here to complain!

Haha yeah I've noticed that about these old trucks. Sometimes they'll fix themselves. Maybe it happens on a lot of vehicles but usually I'm not that lucky. I did fix the radio today though. Apparently it was a blown fuse. Now just fix the door chime, gauges, and power window and I'll be back...

TBI backfire and dies at idle

Haven't checked the timing yet, but about 8 years ago I had the truck tuned up by a good mechanic and he set the timing. So I'm curious... what causes it to lose that setting? Why would the timing be off, without someone messing with the distributor? And if it does turn out to be the timing...

    I've come here to complain!

For that to be the case, all those things would have to be working to begin with. Then I'd have come along, broke everything, and considered it a job well done. At least the government you describe would start with something that needs to be fixed. So a big improvement over what we have now...

    I've come here to complain!

Argh!! My repairs have failed! I just got the truck all fixed up, after it basically sat for 2 years without me touching it. Did a round of repairs to get everything back in working order, and some of the repairs died: 1. Fixed the driver's side power window - Next day it's dead again 2...
