Has anyone bought the LMC dash?

Yeah everyone complains about the way the gauge bezel fits. I think trimming the inside of the dash significantly is the only hope of getting the corners of the bezel to fit normally. But then I think there's a couple (maybe 3) screws that won't have anything to bite into. So to really do the...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

How about a little jack? Maybe it could be placed between the inner frame of the truck, and the transmission. That way you could just operate the jack and use the pressure to push the removal tool into the seal. Not sure which jack would work though. Maybe one of these...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

I did try the prybar method, but it didn't really help. The pry bar just bent lol

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

I can't get that shift shaft seal outta there! Those little tools they sell for that job are useless when you have 4 inches to swing the hammer.

Has anyone bought the LMC dash?

Yeah I think you have to do a lot of trimming to get the bezel to recess in like it's supposed to. Maybe too much trimming, I dunno. It may be that the corner just isn't made quite right. My current dash is the same way. I've still got my old severely cracked dash for comparison so maybe I'll...

Has anyone bought the LMC dash?

Has anyone bought the LMC dash? I am looking for one that has a metal core, like the factory dash had. If it's not metal under there, it ain't gonna work. It will bow up and be wavy. The metal prevents this. (my 87 truck is with AC if that matters) Maybe you're aware of a different company that...

    Busted ball joint boot

Do you know how they typically get damaged during installation? I'd like to make sure I avoid it if I have to reinstall. Not sure how easy it is to over tighten. Maybe a dumb question but, did you remove the ball joint completely, and was it a hassle to get the old boot off and get the new...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

Would you say it's a bad idea to use a 6L80e in one of these old trucks? Is there any real advantage to having two extra gears? I know it would depend on your setup. I'd be looking to gain MPG out of it, if that's possible. Maybe with 2 extra gears, you could have the best of both worlds. A...

    Busted ball joint boot

How important is it that the balljoint boots aren't opened up? I installed some Moog HD (Problem Solver?) ball joints on my truck about 3 years ago, and today I noticed one of the boots has a huge crack. The thing is, these ball joints have maybe 15k miles on them. I don't drive the truck all...

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

Thank you! Is this still the same size on the newer transmissions as well? Just curious on that one. The removal tool says it works on many different GM transmissions.

Shift shaft seal leaking on 700r4?

I've determined that my 700R4 transmission is leaking on my 87 R10 truck. Seems to be the shift shaft seal. Is there any special procedure for removing it? I went looking for the usual youtube video, but there doesn't seem to be any showing this particular job. It's clear that the fluid is...

    Starter wires near exhaust manifold

Yes the metal tube is there, but the wires still exit the tube somewhere around the starter, and the exhaust manifold. I did make sure that the wires will not touch the manifold. There was an easy zip tire spot nearby, and I zip tied them loosely. So there won't be any rubbing. This keeps the...

    Starter wires near exhaust manifold

I have an 87 TBI truck, and I'm hoping it's ok for those starter wires to be about 1 inch away from the exhaust manifold. If you're familiar with the way the starter is set up, then you know about those little wires that connect to it. They're pretty short and it looks like they've been repaired...

How much more power can a 5.3L make without hurting road manners or gas mileage?

No way to get a 6 speed? Or maybe it's not necessary. I like doing 85 on the highway at low rpm's so I don't have to listen to as much engine noise. But you'd be spraying less fuel if you're turning lower RPM's... right?

What's the good AC compressor these days?

In texas it's not really an option. Unless you like arriving at your destination drenched in sweat.

What's the good AC compressor these days?

Trouble is, if something doesn't work out, you are the warranty. Might end up costing a lot more than just taking it somewhere.

What's the good AC compressor these days?

I have the original style compressor that would've come with an 87 truck. I'm guessing it's the dreaded R4. Also I can't do a conversion right now, so I'll just need the best replacement I can get. Given the necessary repair order, is it possible to some of the work myself and save money on...

    Belt jumped to other pulley

Anyone ever have your power steering belt jump onto the crank pulley? And just keep working that way? I was crawling around under the truck and I noticed that one of the power steering pump belts was on the wrong pulley. Somehow it has worked it's way onto the crank pulley. Is this indicative...

What's the good AC compressor these days?

Been reading a few threads where parts quality is in question, even on new name brand parts like AC Delco. Apparently quality is suffering right now. So I thought it best to ask what the good AC compressor is these days. It's for my 87 TBI 350 truck. Next question! The compressor is dead...

What's the midway point between long bed and short bed?

For some reason I only just now saw this post. Looks like a kid's toy! I think I got one of those in my Mcdonalds happy meal in 1985... gotta have something more... grown up looking lol!

How should I solve this starter problem

Thanks! I'll see if I can get one. Got more time to work on the truck now, so I'll see if they have one at the local starter rebuild shop. They'll know exactly what I need to upgrade I'm sure. Especially if I tell them the info posted here. EDIT: Basically this one. If it bolts right up, I...

How should I solve this starter problem

I'm not one to go on fixing things that aren't broken. Two years ago it appeared to fix the whole problem. Ground wire died, replaced it and everything worked fine for a time. What else do you do? No pics right now cause I've got it all apart and I'm redoing some of the wiring. It would just...
