I guess I give up on the windows

Yeah I checked them last week when I took the driver's door panel apart. The contacts were all good except one that was full of green gunk. Not sure what that gunk is, or why it's green. I don't think the actual contacts are copper. It didn't want to roll down (at all) and cleaning that contact...

How to deal with that snoring noise?

Maybe you've heard the noise I'm referring to at some point. The best way to describe the sound, is a light snoring noise when you press the gas. It's easiest to hear at lower speeds, when other things are quiet. Your first thought might be that it's the AC blower motor. I've determined that...

I guess I give up on the windows

I've determined it's the wire that runs between the two switches. Seems to work fine when you roll it up or down from the passenger side. I'd put it at close to factory speeds. 10.45v during operation, even with the truck not running. It's only slow (up or down) when operating the window from...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

That's what lead me to the bearings. If it clunks when you rock the wheel up and down, it's tie rods. Side to side is ball joints. But both ways... wheel bearings. Also I had the suspension shop check everything and all they could come up with was a worn pitman arm and idler arm. I had them...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

In your experience has repacking them ever solved the wheel clunk? When you rock the wheel side to side or top to bottom.

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Is there no possibility of reinstalling bad bearings? Could a bearing pass a visual inspection but still be bad? Next question - How much did yall charge back when you were doing this job? I'm trying to see if I can justify the expense of buying the necessary tools to do it myself.

What did you pay for a square

I paid $800 for a clean running and driving 81 silverado in 2002. My first truck, but a terrible 2 barrel 305. Kinda wish I still had it because the truck was so nice, but at the same time I wasn't a real big fan of the color scheme. Dallas cowboys... meh Truck I have now I paid $1500 for...

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

I'd be curious to know if you can lean back further after doing those things. I'm trying to be able to lean back another two or 3 inches. Once you've modified the floors, maybe the effect is the same because you're using different seats.

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

Maybe a square could be notched too then.

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

I considered it, but I just can't do it. Imo it kills the "old" look of the squares. Extended cab was a big 1990's thing. The squares look great with a single cab, which is undone when you extend the cab.

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

Maybe those trucks have a bit more metal to work with than the squarebodies do.

How to adjust the steering wheel

I've heard of people doing that before, and I'm not sure how it is on the older trucks, but my steering wheel has a notch which will only allow it to go on one way. Trying to adjust the wheel itself wouldn't work in this case.

How to adjust the steering wheel

My steering wheel sits skewed to the left, in order for the truck to drive straight. If you straighten the wheel, it starts going right. I remember this being a simple adjustment, but I can't remember exactly what it was. Something about those collars on the tie rod ends. The truck is 87 2wd...

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

Never thought of a shorter column. I don't have the modern stomach thing going, so I'm not sure if a shorter column would help me much. Are the bench seat backs really that thick? Looks like if you went any thinner, you'd be into those racing bucket seats. Would seats out of say... an 06 truck...

Has anybody ever notched cab for more seat clearance?

The thought crossed my mind, so I had to ask. Is there any metal that can be removed, in order to gain an inch or two of seat clearance? Just to lean back a little bit more. It doesn't really bother me much, but imo that's the one thing that the extended cabs have over the single cabs. Just a...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Well here's some stuff you may not want to hear, Some mechanic on another board said that SKF are all he uses anymore and that he's changed over 100 in his shop and never had a return on them. I believe rockauto sells them. Just FYI, because people have been saying Timken has fallen in quality...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Anyone know how much it costs to have a mechanic do this job? Goofle says $50 - $300. I'd like to do everything myself, but I don't have a torque wrench to set the bearing pre-load. And I don't trust the rentals when it comes to a torque wrench. It's probably been dropped 100 times. So if the...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Even Timken? Everyone seems to like them, and iirc they're USA made. Might be wrong about that though. I jacked the truck up in the front, and had both wheels off the ground. Then I had the wife slowly turn the steering wheel, while I watched everything from underneath. Nothing appeared to...

    Are front wheel bearings adjustable?

Are the front wheel bearings adjustable when they get old? Or get some miles on them. After a thorough inspection of the front suspension and steering on my truck, it seems that it needs a steering box and wheel bearings on both sides. All of the ball and socket joints are tight. The pitman arm...

I guess I give up on the windows

Was it a pain to run it through the door boot? Maybe it would work to just run the new ground to the door itself. I should have thought of that when I had the door panel off

I guess I give up on the windows

Wish I knew about that before I did mine! I just bought relays and did it all myself. Took awhile to plan everything out. My doors are a little faster than they were. They went from painfully slow to just slow. I'll keep the nu relics in mind if I start driving the truck more.

I guess I give up on the windows

Yeah it's pretty disappointing when you spend time and money to fix it, and barely see any improvement. The problem seems to be that there's more than one problem. I replaced the old motor because it was dead, but the new one seems like a slug. I guess it's not, and it's just having to deal...

I guess I give up on the windows

My driver works ok (not great) and the passenger side needs help from a hand most of the time. Looks like more electrical diagnosis is needed. This truck will force me to get really good at that. I think there's a pretty bad voltage drop when you press the switch. Some other posts have said it...

    Headliner questions

If you guys live in an area where it gets hot, I think you have to use the "high temp" stuff. Or the sun will bake the roof and eventually cause your glue to let go.
