    Help Me Settle This!

The ebay screenshot with the 283? 283's and 327's up to 1967 were small journals. I'm not 100% sure that small journals didn't have the plug, but examples that I remember didn't. But I also remember other old junkyard wives tales stating things like that plug was only on 4 bolt blocks. I know...

    Help Me Settle This!

I'm throwing the BS flag. Without seeing a draft tube, or the old canister oil filter you cant tell from just looking at it.

Help, ideas, battery drain 79 K10 details

Not sure what they test at the parts stores. I've heard of alternators that put out a charge, but when the engine is off they drain the battery through the brushes/armature.

Help, ideas, battery drain 79 K10 details

Yep Leaking through brushes/armature to ground Radiator support to what, negative battery terminal? The radiator support should have 2 ground wires, maybe 3. There should be a ground under the headlights, and one going from the core support to the frame on the passenger side. You shouldn't...

    BBC Running terrible

White smoke is coolant. Thats odd. Blue smoke maybe? Bad rings or valve guides would give you blue smoke and plug fouling.

    Big block head bolt(s) question

2 lengths on iron heads. 8 short bolts, the rest are long bolts. 10 short bolts. Duh moment.

    350 standard temp in Arizona.

I put a 4 row radiator from rockauto in mine. Running a 195f thermostat, stock fan and shroud. You can watch the temp swing as the thermostat cycles. It will go up around 200 or so, then when the thermostat opens, it drops almost instantly to 185-190. That big 4 row cools it fast.

Tight engine. Loosing my mind troubleshooting.

No problem there. I used a block of wood on the front of the balancer when I was abusing it. Finally test drove the beast today. Sooo happy to be done working on this engine.

Tight engine. Loosing my mind troubleshooting.

Found the problem. Dropped the main caps one at a time and rotated the engine. #1 cap was causing the drag. Probably from hammering the balancer on like a tard. Re torqued mains and pressed the balancer on with the right tool and it's back to normal. Don't be dumb and hammer balancers on like...

Tight engine. Loosing my mind troubleshooting.

Positive pushrods are correct. Springs are part of a kit, and have plenty of coil space. Rocker arms clear. Valves open and close smooth. Minimal carbon. I'm pulling the engine back out tomorrow and going through everything again. One thing I didn't mention, my friend that was helping me...

Tight engine. Loosing my mind troubleshooting.

Engine was stock 454. 50k miles on it. Changed cam, heads, intake, gaskets and seals. Pulled rear bearing cap to change rear main seal. Bearing looked perfect. Reinstalled and torqued cap per factory service manual. Bottom end is fairly tight without valve train, takes about 40 ft lbs to...
