You know whats changed in the last 20 years?
Everything has overdrive.
I have an SM465 in my truck. It doesn't care for modern highway speeds. Get a trans with overdrive, NV4500 or 700R4. Keep your gear ratios and tire sizes if they are moderate.
The thing that makes these nice, is you can adjust where it throws light. Want a wide area covered, open it up. Want a spotlight effect, close it down.
I was just talking to an electrician at work yesterday about relamping my garage with LED's.
He recommended that style of lights. He's a big fan of them.
I bought the AC Delco valve from Rockauto, it was a drop in replacement.
As stated, replace the hoses since you're there. I believe they are 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8
Cast crank 2 bolt main in my original 454.
You really can't tell without looking at the mains. The same casting numbers were used on both 2 and 4 bolt blocks.
Last trans I built was a 46RE for my old Dodge, I used a PATC rebuild kit with Red Eagle clutches and Kolene steels. I was happy with it.
Here's their 700R4 kit: https://transmissioncenter.net/shop/700r4-master-rebuild-kit-with-an-8-clutch-red-eagle-power-pack/
I have an eagle stroker crank that needs turned (BBC). I called the guys at Borowski Race Engines about turning and balancing, and the guy basically said throw it in the garbage and buy a Callies crank.
I'm going to listen to him.
