    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

The block visually looked clean... I was hoping for a .010 or .020 over... I guess that's another issue I can't understand, why you would keep boring a block and install 2 sleeves if it was so jacked up on the first cut... that would lead even a rookie machinist to think there was something...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

Will do...I figure as a last resort I could always dispute the charge on my credit card and have the suits argue about it... I asked them upfront if they would give me a cash discount and he said no, blessing in disguise

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

I guess I should have taken a little more caution when I heard the blue grass music playing in the shop...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

I would think that as well...but I also think they are not too worried about some hobby builder leaving them a bad yelp review, which is about my only recourse on their reputation at this point...and also giving the guy grief that recommended them to me...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

To me that sounds reasonable...and that is a roller cam and aluminum heads more than I got for $500 less!

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

100% that is what I'm most pissed about... now you have the distrust issue on top of it... I'm not sure I would trust them to deliver me a .020 built long block under the circumstances

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

I'm usually pretty cool...that's why I didn't balk at the price hit...just figured that the parts were higher end than initially quoted out...they did replace pistons/cam/ lifters too if that makes a difference... what gets me the most is that now I'm sitting in a position that if I wanted to...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

Much appreciated on the replies! I think calmly pissed is a good description of how I'm looking at this... once again I can't wrap my head around how an uncut block ended up .060 over with 2 sleeves...however I don't do this all the time either. And like you said, I could have gotten another...

    Rebuilt $350 long block questions

Hey All, I had a local machine shop come highly recommended and had them build out my long block. First the pricing went from $1800 ball park on the phone, to $2500 after it was dropped off and gone over for a quote to a final $3200 when I picked it up...I get it that things change but it...

TH350C been sitting a few years

The last project I worked on was an '83 K5 about 25 years ago so I'm probably a little rustier than the rat urine soaked timing chain I pulled off this one.. I did a couple of web searches but if remember correctly the torque converter should just slide off? On the reinstall it kinda like...

    Manual locking hubs

Hey Curt, So I figured out what was happening after 3 sets of hubs and only 1 hub would install correctly. Some of the splines are not cast straight and have a slight taper to them prohibiting them from sliding in the hub all the way. I looked at one I tried to install and noticed the housing...

TH350C been sitting a few years

Hey All! I bought an 81 Suburban that had been sitting for 5 or so years and my made for TV hopes of putting in some new fluids, starting it up and running it for a while to see what breaks and replace it didn't go as planned. I ended up pulling the engine that was stuck, banging on it with...

    Suburban Project- Need Help!

Ok...so the brakes are done (I had the wrong calipers, I actually ended up installing 3 5/16" piston calipers and hoses) and I replaced the hubs while I was in there..I'm going to replace the differential fluids today. I'm going to check up with the machine shop in the am to get an ETA of the...

    Manual locking hubs

Yet another little twist...the Mile Marker guy sent me out a replacement hub via USPS and it sadi it was going to take 7 days to get here! I was like your really going to pony express me a replacement part that was defective?! So I ordered another set next day delivery through Amazon and was...

    Manual locking hubs

Yeah..what I thought was going to be a fix as you go rolling project turned into a redo everything before it hits the road project...it sat for a while so as I'm going through just about everything I'm finding it needs to be replaced/rebuilt...and if I do this then I should do that... mission...

    Manual locking hubs

Mystery solved! So after speaking with the folks at Mile Marker (great customer service BTW) we figured out it was a "miscast" hub. I looked at the other hub in the kit and it looked IDENTICAL (I measured the lip edge as well) to the one that didn't fit so I didn't try to drop it in...rookie...

    Manual locking hubs

I cant even get see a sliver of the hub housing groove to start a retainer ring..its weird because the instructions say there should be some "float" when the outer ring is installed too

    Manual locking hubs

Exactly what I was thinking too... there really isn't anything else in the way... I almost cant believe I am the only one having a problem and I'm pretty sure its operator error because as you said they should be like clockwork...unless I somehow have the wrong part

    Manual locking hubs

Yeah, I should probably take a new pic before I send that too Mile Marker, haha! I swear I was merely a 3lb mallet to knock in the rear wheel seal, I SWEAR IT, haha

    Manual locking hubs

Hey All, I was rebuilding the front brakes/hubs and I got some Mile Marker manual hubs while I was at it. I went to install the hubs and for some reason they do not go far enough into the hub for the lock ring to retain it into the hub housing. It was dusk on Friday west coast time so no one...

    Suburban Project- Need Help!

Hey All! Hope everyone has been well!! So I'm waiting to get the longblock back from the machine shope and trying to get as much done as I can in the meantime to hopefully drop that puppy in and be roadbound! I degreased and pressure washed the engine bay, rebuilt the rear drums and working...

    Suburban Project- Need Help!

Know the feeling... I had a truck before the Suburban I bought 10 years ago, felt like i lost an arm.. however i will tell you for a people mover and stuff, a Suburban is pretty damn the best there is.. the trend around here are those goofy big Sprinter vans... Now that I committed to a 350...
