Opinions Needed on Square Body Gauges LS Swap

the conversion box should work regardless. The cable goes into the box and the box connects a to GPS sensor that tells the box when to turn the cable. The transmission isn't involved in this setup.

Opinions Needed on Square Body Gauges LS Swap

If you want to retain a factory look, you can just use an OEM cable driven speedometer and attach one of these GPS conversion boxes to it: https://speedhut.com/categories/speedbox.html

Has anyone have experience using a bed lift?

I just used a farm tractor with a bucket loader. The engine lift trick that Keith used works great too.

    steering box adjustment

I put a Redhead on a second gen Dodge Ram truck (Second gens use the same style steering gear boxes as squares) a few weeks ago, and the difference is well worth the high price tag. I'll get one for my square when it needs one.

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

I once tried to jump start a third gen Dodge Ram truck driven by a woman similar to your description in the parking lot of a Dollar general. The gas charged hood struts were wore out and the hood kept slamming shut on me. The grille had those cheesy aftermarket fake chrome inserts on it. Every...

    305 to 5.3

This method works great, because unlike the LS, it essentially bolts in with no substanial modificatios. The Vortec small blocks are over-looked gems thanks to the LS swap craze.

    305 to 5.3

Honestly, I'd suggest just getting a junk yard 5.3 with all the accessories still attached. Rigging an LS to accept v belt accessories is probably going to be more trouble than it's worth. This would also give you an opportunity to have an AC compressor that accepts r134a refrigerant to begin...

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

Most of this thread is satirical in nature. I'll be brutally honest and say that aside from wacky front suspension designs, the older Fords are rock solid trucks. If I was stuck with a "Dent-side" or a "Bullnose" instead of a square I wouldn't complain. Everyone has built junk at some point.

    08 Cobalt

I have no real vendetta against any major parts suppliers. At the end of the day many OEM, "name brand", and "house brand" components are likely coming from the same sweat shops with a few exceptions. I'll gladly help out out the local places, especially the smaller ones when I can, though the...

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

I can see the logic of offering a radio delete package on base models like they did back in the day, but omitting AM radio Only seems like a weird decision. I guess Ford's logic here is that most radio stations can be emulated through various internet apps. But if you're driving through an area...

Finally got a squarebody...for my daughter

Honestly, after dealing with stuck calipers and crusty rotors, I'd welcome changing shoes on drum brakes. Beautiful truck, and welcome.

    8-track player install

Fun fact: Sony actually continued to produce beta max cassettes until 2016.

    08 Cobalt

I priced an AC compressor for an 2006 Ram 2500 at Oriely, they only had aftermarket ones for $400+. I found an OEM Denso unit on Amazon for $210. I always read reviews and examine packaging carefully to make sure it's not a counterfeit unit. I think these chain stores charge premiums because...

    8-track player install

I never thought I'd see someone asking this question in the year 2023. However, vinyl records are still being produced, so its not too far fetched for someone to want to install an 8 track player. I've also read about a sudden revived interest in the flatter cassette tapes that came after the 8...

    Removing bed bolts

I ran into this problem a few weeks ago on my '84. The truck is solid and does suffer any major rot issues, but the nuts on the bed bolts were essentially frozen. Sometimes I could get lucky and bite the upper part of the bolts with a pipe wrench, but I ended just cutting the more stubborn ones...

In today's world, reality has become so wacky, that satire is hard to distinguish from actual advertising. That's the real joke here....

Chose between the vortec vs sbc

If you plan on running a mechanical fuel pump, stay away from the Vortec, since it isn't machined for one. Instead of swapping a whole engine, you could try running Vortec heads on your existing SBC. The only time I'd recommend swapping a whole Vortec, is if your end goal is to have a...

    First Time Square Body Owner

Your grandpa took care of it, and left you a perfect specimen to drive and enjoy. A lot of other "grandpa trucks" I've seen show the same amount of age and wear as the men that drove them and need a lot of work.

    Will any 350 fit?

Like others said, be aware of the little details. Also make sure it has provisions for a mechanical fuel pump. If it doesn't you'll either have to retrofit an electric fuel pump system that works with your carburetor or just go ahead and covert to a TBI system. Make a note of all the vacuum...

Any value in California emissions air pump stuff

Having the charcoal canister hooked up correctly keeps the fuel stench out of your garage. As for the rest of the smog stuff, it's really only worth money to people that are required by law to have it, or are hell-bent on having a 100% factory correct restoration.

    Brake lights

Check the light sockets themselves. The plastic gets brittle and the metal contacts get bent. I've had to swap out many light sockets on trucks more than 2 decades old.

What did you pay for a square

Nowhere is entirely safe, though I've lucked out most of the time, and only had to fix rockers and cab corner damage. '70s trucks seem to disentagrate in my area, and they don't even salt the roads here. The '80s trucks seem to hold up fine for the most part. Perhaps GM changed their metal...

    Driver Vent Window

I have a passenger and driver side vent window assemblies from LMC in my '85 C10 doors. They work great and show no signs of leaking after several years, though the black paint on the frame is pretty thin. I'd suggest putting some sort of protective coating on them before installation, otherwise...

    A pillar gauge pod

If you got some fiberglass skill, you could try modifying an OE style A pillar trim. I've never seen any vendor offer a guage pillar with just one guage insert.
