    FUEL TANK SWITCH ORIENTATION

If one tank is empty and another isn't, you'll learn pretty quick which one is which when you crank the engine. Be warned though, the valve that the switch controls can break and cause you to be stuck on one tank.

    Cool 3+3

The fact that some dingbat drilled into a perfectly good hood to mount that monstrosity and only had a 350 under it, makes this truck look even worse.

    Cool 3+3

A 4wd 3+3 truck is a gem in itself, however this particular one seems to be a stretch at 35k. The amount of rattle canning and awfully fresh exterior paint, would make me be wary of excessive fiberglass bodywork, and other hidden problems. If this was a 15K truck, I'd say maybe. As a 35k truck...

    '78 long bed value

In my area that's probably $750 tops, $1000+ if it has a decent tailgate to go with it. Edit, just now noticed the tailgate. Like others said, if you want to go through the hassle of shipping, there are plenty of people in salted road states that would happily pay a 4 digit price tag for a...

    Quadrabog bogs

Everytime a Q jet gets mentioned in the original post, the thread devolves into a Q jet bashing thread. When properly built and configured for the drive train combo they sit on (Q jets have been used on everything from small Buick V6s to massive Cadillac V8s.) they are arguably the best 4...

electric switch on shifter, need ideas

If you any programming experience or know someone that does, a raspberry pi mini computer can be programmed to do whatever you want.

electric switch on shifter, need ideas

It really wouldn't be that difficult if you ran the wires down the same channel that the rest of the steering collum harness goes through. The hardest part would be making the new lever work in the same recess as the old one. The other methods suggested are good too, this method just gives you...

Ran out of gas, but tank not empty

In your defense, a TBI truck would have electric pumps; but being an 81, I'd assume the truck in the original post is mechanical unless it was converted to TBI at some point. There are also some non-factory carburetor setups that require the use of an electric fuel pump. Either way, dirty lines...

electric switch on shifter, need ideas

If you found an on/off button that was the correct size, you could just take the factory button out, an put the other switch in the same housing.

electric switch on shifter, need ideas

This is a pretty solid idea. It's actually pretty similar to the the "Tow Haul" button on most modern trucks. If someone wanted to be creative, they could put a modern shift lever on that collum and wire the built in "tow-haul" button as their lockup switch.

Hydraulic clutch not engaging as far as it should.

I'm going to guess the slave cylinder or something related to it. I had a Dodge truck with a hydraulic clutch do something similar, and slave cylinder ended up being the problem.

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

In terms of cosmetics, the worst thing to happen was the NHSTA mandating minimum height requirements for front ends. This has caused everything from the grille to the wheel wells to get consideredy bigger.

Ran out of gas, but tank not empty

I had this same problem in my '84 K1500. There comes a point where gas tanks become so rotten that the rusted bit and other trash gets sucked into your fuel lines. There's also a little sock like filter on the end of each sending unit that rots off over time, and allows the trash to enter the...

    Let's talk vehicle security...

Nah, I get your point. I've chuckled at the classic "millenials are too stupid to drive a manual" joke plenty of times. I'm just telling people not to assume their vehicle is going to get ignored by thieves just for having a third pedal.

Recommend method for cleaning fuel tank

Update: Thanks everyone for the suggestions, but after examining the tanks, I realized that they were to far gone to be saved by a simple cleaning and both were leaking. I replaced both with Dorman brand tanks from rock auto.

    Let's talk vehicle security...

I've seen plenty of of manual transmission Ford Super duty trucks stolen by human traffickers around the southern border area. Crew cabs are especially desirable to them due to the amount of people they can cram with the back seat removed. If someone is inclined enough to bypass an alarm and...

    Fuel guage acting eratically.

I just replaced both fuel tanks and sending units on my '84 K1500. I solved my fuel delivery issues, but now a new problem has arisen. I put six gallons in the driver's side tank and the guage read a little less than half a tank (this would technically be close to correct since it's a 16 gallon...

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

I always thought GMCs had a a little more creative styling. The 67-72 trucks had a cool and distinctive "4 eye" look, and the squares always seemed to have more detailed grilles.

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

The three letters on a GMC are fun for acronym jokes. "God's Mechanical curse." "Gotta Mechanic coming?" "Gay Man's Choice/Chevrolet."

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

In the case of 73-87 trucks, grilles, emblems, and tailgate stamping. The same can can be said about the GMT400 trucks aside from tailgate stamping. GMT800 and later trucks had more unique differences.

    I’m in love - here’s the truck I’m dating

You folks up there are lucky in the used car market. Where I'm at, the truck you just described would sell for $8000 or more immediately after being listed.

    I’m in love - here’s the truck I’m dating

I'm glad you like the way it smells, I've been fighting a lingering stench in my '84 K1500. It sat abandoned for a good seven years before I bought it though; but yet it is still somehow cleaner on the inside than a lot of newer cars people drive everyday.

    Th350 atf leak

Lucky for you, the TH350 is about as simple as an automatic can get. Make sure you have good vacuum going to it, and plenty of fluid in it, and it will last you for years.
