Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

The 300 was arguably one of the best inline 6s ever made, right along with the AMC 232 and 258. The slant 6 was also an interesting, and durable creature. The efi versions of the various inline 6 designs got decent fuel economy too.

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

I've always considered the bump side to be one of the prettier Fords. My dad had a '69 F100 Ranger that was beautiful.

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

That sounds identical to the truck my neighbor left to rot in his yard until it turned to dust. I wanted to save it, but it was too far gone.

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

I made the 73-87 restriction, and disregarded the 88-91 RV series trucks, because I knew the results would be skewed to the Ram trucks for having a Cummins. The 6BT Cummins engine was introduced in '84, but didn't appear from the factory in a light duty truck until '89. During this 5 year...

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

I almost added them to the poll, but figured they'd be too rare for people to consider. The only person I knew that had one of the last light duty Internationals was my grandfather, and that was back when they were still in production. I've seen plenty of Scouts and a few carry-alls, but the...

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

I've always been a fan of the J trucks, the only thing that scares me about them is the scarcity of certain parts. A lot of it is compatible with FSJ Cherokees and Wagoneers, but J truck specific things like bed panels and tailgates are a little more challenging to find.

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

I forgot to specify that this was limited to full size trucks but there are lots of good choices in your post though. I have always found the Scrambler superior to the more common and shorter CJ7. The Old Gladiator is essentially just the J series truck before it was called the J Series. The...

Poll: What '70s/'80s pickup would you own if a GM square wasn't an option?

Let's have a little fun and see which of the other trucks we hate the least. For convenience, I'll limit the alternative choices that we're available during the 73-87 model years of the square's production life (Anything before or after, this time period isn't included in the poll, "Brick nose"...

Painted the valve cover for my civic. I think you guys might like it.

That's a very tasteful and well thought out custom Civic. It's not like some of the over the top ricer abominations I've seen.

I've never liked the 5.7 either. I am told they have gotten better in the newer trucks, but the only Mopar small blocks I trust to last are the old 318 and 360 (5.2 and 5.9 magnum). The V10 magnum is an underappreciated beast of an engine with a lot of potential. I think what hurt the V10's...

There 4.7 plagued many Dodge trucks too. The old Chrysler LA engines used in the '90s were one of the 2nd gen Ram pickup's few redeeming qualities, aside from the availability of a Cummins in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Chrysler did hold on to the AMC inline 6 design for as long as they could though...

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

I've driven Ford, GM, Chrysler, and AMC products. In my experience, the Chrysler and AMC engines seem to run forever, but the rest of the car falls to pieces around them. My '98 Ram 1500 that I use for farm work is an absolute rattle trap now, but the old TBI 318 in it keeps going, no matter how...

Seeing how terrible the 6.4 is will make you realize a 6.0 isn't so bad, though that doesn't necessarily mean the 6.0 doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I'd trust an old gutless 6.9 or 7.3 IDI before I'd trust a 6.0 or 6.4.

    Should I?

I've seen plenty of both abandoned and running C20s, but K20s are virtually nonexistent where I live. I guess their popularity was regional when they were new.

How do new cars connect to internet ?

All modern smartphones are. My Samsung Galaxy shows me various things I talk about in person on various apps pretty regularly. As long as your phone has a functioning mic, and internet connection, it is capable of detecting certain words and phrases, and letting the various AI algorithms act...

How do new cars connect to internet ?

It's honestly one of the most devious marketing and psychological manipulation schemes in history. Social media platforms, and various internet applications make their money from selling data they collect to various outlets. There is AI algorithms in place that learn an individual user's...

    Should I?

I knew a guy that did custom work on lots of squares back in the day. He said that "shaved" trucks were very trendy at one point. Many custom shops made it a point to eliminate as much exterior components as possible, the drip rails were often the first things to go. Mirror deletes, and filling...

Fair point. If things got bad enough to a point where such weapons were used, having a running vehicle may not be the immediate concern anyway.

How do new cars connect to internet ?

I don't recall anything Jeep related, but I do know as of recently BMW can turn off certain features of a car, such as heated seats if you don't pay a subscription fee. They use the technology discussed in this thread to do it.

Another thing people often forget is the potential threat of an EMP blast. A powerful enough blast would wreck any car's ECM, with or without a cellular connection.

How do new cars connect to internet ?

The biggest fear generated from all of this, is the ability for someone with the right access to brick a vehicle at will. Someone with programming experience could likely make a bricked car run again, but it would take much time and effort to do every vehicle. A skilled cyber terrorist or...

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

The 83-84 style bezels actually work quite nicely with the 85-87 grille.

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

Someone could probably use something like a FARO arm to scan the middle emblem of an original grille and make a CAD file of it. If someone did that, we could just 3D print emblems to graft on to the unlicensed grilles.

    Looking for 83-84 GMC Grille

Those grilles have the correct 6 panels, but lack the center emblem due to being unlicensed reproductions. There are licensed reproductions of the 85-87 3 panel grille, but unfortunately none for the 6 panel 83-84 grille. Maybe if we bug LMC and USA1 enough, we can get a run of licensed 83-84...

    GMC vs. CHEVROLET

Perhaps they ran out of the Chevrolet style side trim, and just said "screw it."
