Do I need a new alternator?

I left everything connected, black on neg. terminal and red on alternator case reading was .05 , red on pos. post and black on the alternator post with the nut holding the wire to it, reading was .1 both were at 1500 rpm. Not positive those were the exact readings I didn't write them down but...

Do I need a new alternator?

I looked at a couple different youtube videos on how to check my alternator with my multimeter. It appears that the ground is good, the hot connection is good, but it's not charging the battery. I think this means the alternator is not working, am I correct? 79 k2 400.

What alternator should I get for my 1979 Silverado?

1979 Silverado I need an alternator don't know what to get. It has just basic stuff like lights, heater, wipers radio etc. I do pull a stock trailer sometimes. Can I tell which one is on it now? It's probably the original one.

Can't find the right fuel selector valve for my 79 Silverado.

I need the valve in the first photo, it's here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/ACDelco-Gold-Professional-Fuel-Tank-Selector-Valve/47613142 but they sent the one in the second photo. My truck does not have a harness with a plug, it has a single wire that connects to a bolt on the metal part of...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Yes and it was what caused me to discover that this part of the choke had not been properly installed, it was a HUGE help!

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Ok thanks so much, The truck is usable now so I can easily wait until Tuesday. I think I saw that gasket by itself somewhere, I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile I'll get the book.

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Well he'll either answer me or he won't , no answer is probably what I'll get. Here's the kit that was supposed to be installed, he did say something about a gasket for the accelerator pump that wasn't included, but he also said the old one looked good, not sure what to think...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

I'll check out the kit see if I can figure it out, and also ask him, see if I can get him to at least answer questions.

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Well I bet he didn't do it because he didn't even tune it after he mounted it, Not sure the pump parts were replaced, I'll look up the kit and see if I can figure it out because I do think he replaced the stuff that came with the kit. Like I said I'm pretty ignorant, but certainly capable of...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Makes sense, before I adjusted the mixture it was a pound or so higher, but one side was only out 1 1/2 turns, the other side was out 2 1/2 turns. Would a leak in the brake booster cause the brakes to grab?

Ok, since a rebuild kit was just installed can I do only the things you mentioned or do I need new gaskets and stuff?

    Hard cold starting

79 Silverado 400 I had a guy rebuild my carb, but he didn't adjust the choke or tune it after he mounted it. Thanks to the help of people on another thread here I have the truck running nicely, but it takes 10 pumps to start it when it's cold. I think it should be less. Once it's warmed up...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

The number of mine is 17059226, the type if I have it right is R4-M4MC. The mixture screws are actually hex, I did adjust them according to a video "How To Quadrajet Carburetor Rebuild - Part 3:" by Shop Tool Reviews, he said that some people use the brake booster port but he liked the one...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Thanks everyone, I have it running nicely now, the only thing is that when it's cold I have to pump it 10 times before it will start. Can I fix this? I have adjusted the idle with a vacuum gauge. And idle speed is about 850 rpms

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

I got it adjusted well enough to start cold, it still needs adjustment. I looked at some you tube videos on adjusting. On my carburetor I can't see the 2 screws in front, they are recessed way in, not like the photo in the best video (attached). I can't see them at all. I can get to the left...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Thank you guys so very much for being willing to help people. I got the spring attached to the linkage without too much trouble and was able to adjust the choke, not sure I knew what I was doing there as it was flooding really bad at first, but I played with it and got it running really well...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

As Frankenchevy Suggested, I tried to adjust the choke turning the dial on the electric/thermostatic? choke. The choke is wide open and the adjuster does not move the choke. Am I correct in thinking it is either improperly installed (the "mechanic" replaced it), or else the spring is broken...

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

I have bought filters with and without the check valve, the one I have now does have it. Going out now to try to adjust the choke.

Do you mean the coil on the electric choke? Will it feel warm all the time if it's hooked directly?

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Yes, that's what he told me it would take after the rebuild, I don't think he's going to help me figure it out.

Choke not closing on rebuilt quadrajet

Yes I think it could be. How would I fix that? And how would I figure out if that's what it is? I did check the filter, and there was gas there.
