    37s on a half ton with a 12 bolt with 4.10 gears

You have received a lot of good comments, so I guess I'll put my 2 cents in. I have run everything from 35" Haugs on 1/2 tons, to 44" Gateway Gumbo's on ton, to 48" Goodyear flotations on Rockwells, and can tell you it really just depends on what you will be doing with the truck. You said you...

14 bolt axle tubes are… coming out????!

You're right, they're a press fit, but not a very tight press fit, hence the seepage. Maybe size for size, I was able to push my tubes out with a 4 ton Porta-Power. Anyway, can you tell me what rod or wire you used? Did you have to heat the casting up before welding it? I assume you have been...

14 bolt axle tubes are… coming out????!

AuroraGirl, I suggest marking the axle tube and the pumpkin with a sharpie or scratch it with an awl, drive it and see if there's any movement. It does appear from your pictures that there may be a little oil seepage around the plug welds and maybe at the axle tube. There's very little chance...

removing rear leaf packs eyebolts and U bolts without a torch

Bucket is right, if you don't have a torch you will need a Sawzall and some good blades. The Diablo are good blades, I have had good luck with the Milwaukee Torch blades too. The problem you are going to have is at the front spring eye bolt. If you can get the bolt to move at all, the nut...

    Help with Drum Brakes

Is that a semi floating 14 bolt rear? The cables sure look like my 14 bolt full. Do you have hubs sticking out of the wheels with bolts in them? If it is a full floater, I would say you will not be able to use those existing cables. In the picture of the drivers side bracket you can see there is...

    Help with Drum Brakes

That 2 bolt plate on mine is just a cover or guard. My cables are the push in design that snaps into the backing plate, and the rear end is a 75. Are the 2 bolt covers missing and you can see it bolts in? I've never seen a bolt in design

Setting a cab on jack stands

Now I understand what you're doing. In my opinion you are being a little over cautious, but that doesn't hurt anything, always better to be over cautious! The dolly you built looks more than sufficient. The dolly I used was nothing more than a cheap wood movers dolly with 2 x 4s laying flat...

Setting a cab on jack stands

Any reason you can't put your jack stands at your body mount holes? I wouldn't trust the rockers to support the cab and not bend

    Wiring 'factory' gauges 'directly'???

Yes, you are on the right track. I did this very same thing back in the early 90's when my printed circuit board shorted out. I had purchased a Sun gauge pack with a wet oil pressure and water temp gauges. I didn't want working gauges mounted externally somewhere in the cab and dead gauges in...

    My 1976 GMC K20

35's are where I started. Just don't get hooked on 4 wheeling like I did. First I broke my 1/2 ton stuff, so I went to 3/4. Got sick of breaking 3/4 ton stuff, and went to 2 1/2 ton Rockwells. Broke those too. Now I've gotten smart as I've gotten older, and going back to my 3/4 ton stuff and...

    My 1976 GMC K20

Nice! A 3/4 ton will easily handle 35's. You can go 38's or even 39.5's if your not too rough with it. Not sure if Washington has lift laws

    My 1976 GMC K20

You got a sweet truck there! Looks like a Camper Special, good bones. You have any plans for it other than body work?

    Electrical issue.

I always start with grounds. A loose ground is usually what causes multiple items on different circuits to fail

3 port fuel tank selector valve

I got mine from Rock Auto. I had to do some rewiring to make it work

3 port fuel tank selector valve

All of these 3 port universal solenoids I have found have been for 5/16 hose. I found one from Summit that was listed as 3/8, but when I got it, it was also 5/16. I had to go to a 6 port, then just capped off the unused ports.

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

I think you have taken care of any air issues you had, if the squealing has gone away and no more bubbles. Is your brake pedal real loose, sloppy?

    master cyl leaking !

Have you raised all 4 corners and made sure the wheels are turning freely? It may be a brake sticking

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

Look for fluid leaks anywhere in the system, if fluid can get out, air can get in. You shouldn't need to take apart anything that's not leaking. Try this, raise the front of the truck, wheels off the ground. Start the engine and run it up to about 1500 rpm. Keep it at 1500 and turn the wheel...

truck is not sitting level - need help diagnosing

3" should be correct for your 1/2 ton, 12 bolt axle. Making your own center bolt, in my opinion, is not a good idea. The correct bolt is not very expensive, just look on e-bay under leaf spring center bolt. They have various lengths. Also, as far as the aluminum shims go, unless they are made to...

truck is not sitting level - need help diagnosing

I would have the springs re-arched. Most truck and spring repair shops can re-arch leaf springs. You will need to get new U-bolts, you never want to reuse U-bolts. And if you decide to use a spacer, use only 1, never stack spacers or blocks between the leaf spring and axle

    What is this?

It looks like a temperature sensor wire. If so, it's really burnt up. Look at that side of the engine around the exhaust manifold and see if there's a sensor sticking out with no wire to it

What would you do, if you were me?

Prices you gave sound pretty good. Square bodies are becoming more and more popular, and I don't see the prices going down. If you're not good with welding and body work, a cab swap is not hard, just time consuming, and as long as you have a way to move the cab, it's pretty heavy. You may also...

Brake pedal needs manually reset after depressing

You said you bled the system, but it sounds like to me there's still air in it. I had the same symptoms you're having, and it took me several tries to get all the air out. Is there any foam in the fluid?

truck is not sitting level - need help diagnosing

Have you checked for a broken leaf? Look for a crack in one of the leaves at the spring center pin between the u-bolts
