Bringing the Cat back...enough is enough.

My cat on the 87 short bed was attached to the y pipe via a 4" adapter from the factory. Eric

    Sandblasting advice needed.

My recent rabbit hole is removing the factory/dealer undercoating on a 55 studebaker coupe. Of all the methods tried failed. The best result is using a cheapo vibrating cutter with a straight blade. We are holding it loosely and using the side edge to chip away the crap. I believe that the...

    5.7 Exhaust Manifold Bolts

Exhaust manifold bolts are famous for snapping off. I would not fool with them unless you are prepared to pull the heads, or easy out if able to access the broken one. YMMV Eric

LMC truck has the wrong window regulator rollers....

This whole thing does not make me feel warm and fuzzy. My fall back plan is to pull the regulators out of my glass donor doors as they are way better than the ones I have in regard to the rollers. Eric

    Omg dude - get real!

So the supply chain bullslip has hit every industry. I just paid 250.00 for a gallon of 87 chevy truck red. it would have cost 100.00 last year. That is paint only. No reducer and clear coat and hardener is extra. Eric

Catalytic converters: does your square have them?

I recently removed mine, OG to my 87 to make removing the gas tank possible. Cat blocked any access to bracket bolts. Straight pipe went back. Eric

    Exhaust

Having recently dug into the interwebs on the single pipe over the axle on the 87, it is no joy. If I were you I would order one of the dual exhaust kits, around 195.00 and bring them back together yourself if you want the single pipe out. Eric

What have you done to your square lately??

1.5 hours of quality time with the air chisel got my exaust off from the Y pipe back. Made dropping the gas tank easy peasy. About design, what dumb a$$ designed the hoses for this? People want to know. Eric

What new tools have you got lately?

Just recently bought a "blast out of the bucket" kit from eastwood. I paid up for it, 50 bucks. I picked it because it has replaceable ceramic tips. F me. It may have replaceable tips but the Chineese casting for the venturi does not suck. Changed out the gun for a flea market find and it...

    Fuel tank mounting brackets

So I am in nearly the same pickle, after cleaning a hole in my tank 2 weekends ago. My question is for 87 specific. Do yo have to drop the cradle brackets off the frame to change the tank? Or can you wiggle it out of the brackets if you unbolt the top straps? I assumed the whole enchilada had...

Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

I have taken some $hit for the repairs I have done to my rig in the tear down proccess, but dam it! They lasted. When I went looking for the exaust pipe bend up and over the axle 15 years ago it turned into a cluster. So I went to the semi truck parts store and bought some tank grade flex...

    87 cylinder heads

The 87 heads are nothing special. Stock replacements are cheap. Getting your heads done at local machine shop to stock specs, cheap. If not looking for power, the machining your heads is the way to go. I had mine done with new valve guides for around 250.00 IIRC. Eric

Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

I also noodled that I could cut the pipe either side and just put it back with 2 couplings and 4 clamps. Eric

Opinions on cutting out catalytic converters.

How about a bump back on track? So my current situation is making removing and replacing the og fuel tank mandatory on the 87. This will make removing the og cat mandatory to get to the bolts for the fuel tank mount. I have no illusions of being able to remove the cat without a sawzall. so...

What have you done to your square lately??

I know right? I did it with the hand held mini for spot blasting. If you blast your finger or hand, no biggie. So the tank was a gone anyway I just found it sooner than later. lmc loves my 1 step back days. Eric
