    6×9s

The magnet size is determined by power handling and magnet type. If you aren't planning on using an amplifier then a bigger magnet will just take away from the sound as you won't have enough power to run the speakers correctly. If you are planning to run an amp then I usually do like 45tt and...

    Inexpensive cup holders?

They are made for boats and even thogh they are a little flimsy they hold cups while bouncing over waves so they should be strong enogh. I've installed them on many boats and they are great because they are out of the way when not in use.

Fuse question (what is this for? Empty on a schematic)

At least you dad didn't pull the glass fuse out and wrap it with tin fiol! I went to find an Ign to tap into and saw it. I had been driving it that way for over 10yrs since my Dad passed plus however long he drove it too. I guess being a turbine engeneer doesn't make you good at wiring?

    Let’s talk about headliners

I've done a few racecars where the cage was to close to the roof to get a headliner throung and I just did sound deadner and glued the fabric right to the roof and they came out great. If you havent done a lot of fiberglass then don't even think about this being a good starting point. I've done...

    Let’s talk about headliners

I have recovered at least 20 different headliners and there are some great instructions here. The main thing I do different is the prep (I use a D/A Orbital sander to remove all foam and dust from the prior covering) and I always use Weldwood Landau Top and Trim Contact Adhesive. I use a cheap...

Where can I get this connector?

As a wiring an audio installer for over 25 years, this advice is great!!!! I just bought a 70 C-10 and had to do this exact thing as the truck has a Studebaker dash and a tilt column from some other chevy installed with a horn button for a starter because the wiring was hacked up so bad!

    Vibration - Driveline Saga

I have the same problem with my 89 Suburban and have tried many of the ideas on here EXCEPT the suspension. I have changed the shocks to new nicer Bilstein ones but never thought about springs until now. I have bought a new, used set of springs that are 4 inch lift but now they will be the next...

Some cool cars I worked on in my old life.

Great pictures! I had an air cooled VW shop for years in the 90's and owned over 20 VW's over the years before I got into muscle cars and trucks. I also did some interior/electronics work for John James Racing here in the Phx area when I was with Unique Car Audio for 15yrs.

    Hello from Arizona

Am I crazy to expect more than 10 MPG

I have an 89 Suburban with all stock 350, 4x4 and 33 inch tires. My friend has the same exact tuck and tires with the only difference being he has a 454 engine. I get 10 mpg and he gets 13. His reasoning is that the 454 doesn't have to work as hard to lug around all the weight with a small block.

Can someone school me on carpet

I've done quite a few of all 3 styles and I prefer the molded with the Jute already on the backside by far with sound deadening on the cleaned metal. It helps in cold or hot weather (It gets up to 130 degrees here inside vehicles) The easy way of cutting out for Seat holes is to use a pick tool...

    Overheating engine

I had this exact problem but I wish I had seen this back a few years ago when it was in the moment. I kept cycling the engine from hot to cold and refilling but this would have obviously been WAY easier. Or I could have tried the other idea for lifting the front of the truck as well. I will...

    Insulation on a Budget

I have been an audio and electronics installer in the Phx are for many years and I would highly recommend using the best possible material you can afford for the roof! You can get away with the cheaper stuff but not the roof. You will need the best adhesion and the cheaper materials will melt...

    Overheating “slightly” and infrequently

I had an air bubble in my system after cleaning out the radiator. It took a few tries but it finally came out and I had no more overheating issues after that. I'm glad it was just wiring!

    Alternator issues....

Have you checked for a draw on the battery? I've had multiple customers over the years that had phone chargers that they left plugged into the cigarette lighter that had draws of up to 3 amps. The really bad culprits are the generic ones from the dollar store.

    Console around 4wd shifter

Im getting ready to start on a new console for my 89 Suburban. I've done them in the past for customers but not for myself. I'm going to put a subwoofer in it as well. Here are a couple of pics for ideas.

    Captains seat covers

I was hoping after how long they had been in production there would be some better options. So far I'm going to add aftermarket seats since I had to weld up the Adjuster anyway.
