TH350 Do some not need a kickdown cable ?

Pardon my ignorance of transmissions, but this may be a quirk. My 84 K-10 with TH350 doesn't have a kickdown cable for passing gear but when I mash the throttle pedal, it kicks down like it does have one. My 83 C-20 also has a TH350 but will not kick into passing gear no matter what without the...

    Thermostat help

Is the intake manifold fitting a set of one piece or two ? I definitely need the two armed one.

    Thermostat help

Thank you !!! It's a tough choice between the brake light switch, the oil pressure switch, the PCV valve and the intake manifold fittings......... All very usable for me, so I will figure out what I need the most.

    Thermostat help

I think the engine will overheat because there is no thermostat to "cycle" allowing time for the coolant in the radiator to dissipate the absorbed heat from the block.

    Weak lifter

I don't know how much zinc levels have dropped in oils, but when i built my stroker 20 years ago, I used Valvoline 10w30 and no additive, and all went well. I didn't even run the engine for 15 to 20 minutes at high idle, I simply set the timing, adjusted the carburetor, and drove the truck. The...

    Weak lifter

I wish you better luck the second time around. Their pic on the site shows hardened lifters (have the ring around the lifter about a quarter inch up from the base) but the lifters they shipped were NOT hardened and did not have that ring. We are not going to give Summit a second chance, I can't...

    Weak lifter

At least your Summit cam and lifters didn't fail and wipe this bad in less than 15 minutes of run time. We DID have metal shavings in the engine and had to disassemble it. Going to buy a Schneider cam and lifter set and never buy Summit again.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it doesn't help it's 100 friggin degrees outside, scorching sun and no shade to work under. Ten minutes is the max amount of time at a stretch before I have to head to the house to cool off for at least a half hour.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it possible the dome light door switch circuits are a cause? With both doors closed, the dome light glows very dimly (well, it used to before I yanked the bulb) and it only would be bright if I turned the headlight switch all the way to turn on the dome and courtesy lights.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to the diagrams I can find online, the instrument lights and parking/tail lights are on different circuits.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No parking lights and no instrument lights (they are on the same circuit, obviously). Brake lights and turn signals are okay (different circuit). Gauges work fine.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Checked the ground by the taillight, it's good, the ground cluster by the parking brake is good, friend said he saw a flash of light one time about the middle of the dash underneath when the fuse blew the last time. Checked the wires and stuff there, all seems good. It's baffling.

No dash or tail lights, this is WEIRD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

83 C20 Once upon a time, I would turn the lights on, they worked until I hit a small bump in the road, then the fuse blew. Replaced fuse, everything worked again until I hit another bump. Later, I replaced the headlight switch because all the lights started acting up, and the new switch fixed...

Squarebody Down! HELP - Member Roadside Assistance Volunteer Map

If somebody shows up on the list twice, does that mean we can get help in half the time ? And don't mind me, I'm having a weird day. On a subnote, I am working on a plan to improve the roads here so it's easier to get out and in, and once accomplished, I will be available along the I-40...

    Knock upon starting, new engine

THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am watching it now, even though it's past my bedtime and I am worn out from the big city trip today. And I am taking notes. Roomie is going to call Summit tomorrow and call them out on their ad for the cam kit he bought, they show the lifters with the ring and...

    Anybody ever run a 3896962 camshaft ?

Was used in the L-82 corvette, I am wondering how it compares to the 929 Chevy cam or the Summit 1102. Don't want anything too radical, but a little more performance than a stock cam might be the trick in the GMC 2500 2wd truck for light duty hauling and daily driving.

    Knock upon starting, new engine

My roomie has already called Summit and they emailed him a return shipping label. Now we gotta decide what cam to buy for the engine. The 929 sounds very similar to the Summit 1102, but I don't know about the cost.

    Knock upon starting, new engine

The lifters were smooth in their bores, no problems in that department. Stock valve springs and rockers, so no excess pressure from them to complicate anything.

    Knock upon starting, new engine

I used generous amounts of moly assembly lube, castrol GTX 10w30 oil with some ZDDP added too, so the engine had plenty of lubrication.

    Knock upon starting, new engine

They hadn't removed the crank when I was there today, but they plan to take it apart and double check EVERYTHING for dimensional specs, etc and will call me. He actually understood when I said the plastigage looked like a paramecium when I did the test.

    Knock upon starting, new engine

Just got home from the big city, the machine shop looked over the block and determined the cam and lifters are wiped bad, due to soft steel. Here's a pic of the worst lifter. Makes me skittish of getting a replacement cam from Summit. Rumor has it there are only two or three places that produce...
