    Limited slip in the front?

I get both snow and horrible mud being off the grid, and I put limited slip in the front (so far) and it makes a HUGE difference. It's best in the front if you have part time 4x4. Someday I may put it in the rear.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

The electric pump is below the tanks and behind the selector solenoid. I know electrics prefer to push and mechanical likes to pull.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

The reason I am not running a mechanical pump with the return is because the cam lobe that runs the fuel pump went south.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Thanks, Guy ...that makes sense, and worth looking into. The fuel pump I got from NAPA is rated at 4 to 7 psi. I guess now I need to dig around and find the diagram of how the switch solenoid is plumbed so I can hook up a return line. I hope the parts store person doesn't look at me like I have...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Well, Perry, what other choices do I have, what with my health and so many other things around here failing ?

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Now to find a graduated cylinder to do the ethanol test. Remember, the town I shop in is Prescott, an old indian word that means "you gotta go to Phoenix because we don't have it here".

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I am going to try two experiments on the truck. 1. Ethanol free gas, sure it costs more, but may do the trick. 2. Premium gas, again more expensive (a LOT more for my already stressed budget) but may help even though the engine does not require that high an octane rating.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Is it possible this engine does not like ethanol in the gas, causing the problems? All the other vehicles and generators and equipment here run fine on ethanol gas (I always buy at the same gas station and run everything on it).

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Is there a possibility the Goodwrench engine is a high performance one that can cause these problems ? I have no way to ID it as such, but it does have a bit of a lope to it idling instead of the normal "smooth idle" from a stock engine. And that engine sure does have balls, even with close to...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

The vapor lock problem happens on warm to hot days, above 60 degrees. And starts after a highway run. The fuel line coming over the crossmember to the switch solenoid will quit drawing gas, so I switch to the passenger tank. It resumes pumping gas, and after a while it quits. I get out with a...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Stock 350 Goodwrench engine, Q-jet carb on a Edelbrock intake. Engine temp runs right at 165 to 180 depending on speeds driven. No racing, it's just a normally driven pickup to go to the store and run errands. Timing is spot on perfect, no pinging, no over advanced hard starts, and no laboring...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I am still trying to eliminate my vapor lock issues on my 83 C20, I have wrapped the fuel lines running along the frame with heat wrap tape, replaced the old electric fuel pump, and still have the problem. I wrapped the exhaust pipes from the manifolds to the mufflers today, and hope it helps...

    Harmonic balancer removal issues

As long as the temp doesn't run much over 210 you should be okay. A lot of people don't know that every pound of pressure in the radiator in conjunction with a good 50/50 coolant/water mix raises the boiling point of the coolant by three degrees. The vacuum gauge method is often a good backup...

    Harmonic balancer removal issues

Glad to hear how sweet it's running !!! I would suggest however, you try to get the operating temperature down a bit to help prolong engine life. Personally i will run a 160 degree thermostat in the summer, and at most a 180 in the winter. But then again I get two seasons here in northern AZ...

Any tips on removing old brake hoses?

I don't know if this'll help you, but I had to make it to change the front lines on my 83 C20 where there was no room to work in the frame. Used a cheap made in China wrench I didn't care about and never used anyway and made a large flare nut wrench from it to fit where there's only room enough...

    Tie Rod End Size

I have an 82 C20 made for the 83 model year. When the time came for me to rebuild the front end, I stupidly assumed parts for an 83 would fit. I was wrong !! Seems the 82 used the larger diameter heavy duty parts. They are most certainly NOT interchangeable........ MUST be the correct size, so...

    Harmonic balancer removal issues

4 degrees before is a good starting point, (I remember those days) but depending on engine condition, the atltitude you live at, and a few other variables, you may find you will want to advance it some more, but not enough to cause pinging or hard starting. Just for giggles, try setting the...

    Harmonic balancer removal issues

For those not familiar with the terminology, the harmonic balancer is an interference fit. It's actually a hair smaller inner diameter than the crank snout outer diameter so that guarantees a TIGHT fit, and the woodruff key in the crank locks it in position from having any chance of spinning...

    Harmonic balancer removal issues

I made this myself many years ago for a LOT less than the set sold in tool trucks or stores. And it's so simple, it actually works. I got a piece of grade 8 all thread, cut at 6 and a half inches long. Double nut tightened against each other on one end to stay put. Another nut free to thread on...

    Another awesome accessory (BLUETOOTH)

Thanks for posting this !! This may be the only way I will ever have music in my truck. I can't afford a stereo with bluetooth or usb that fits in the original dash hole, and I refuse to cut the dash open for a din setup. I do have an original am/fm cassette square stereo that works, so this...

    Fuse Block/Wiring Harness

I am having an issue with heat from my goodwrench 350 in my 83 C20, and I suspect it may have damaged the engine side of my fuseblock adding to my lighting issues. Thanks for making that point and making me aware of something to look for. Now, to scrounge a good shape OEM engine side harness.......

    ignition timing crazy

Taylor - Are you talking about the rubber that bonds the two pieces of the harmonic balancer? It's normal for it to be squished out, and it does not serve as a seal for pulley. The pulley does not require a seal. Or are you talking about the crankshaft seal in the timing cover? A good pic of the...

    ignition timing crazy

I was VERY fortunate in High School to have had the best auto shop teacher one could want to learn from, and 48 years later, I still work by his teachings. He drilled automotive theory and the laws of physics into us in a way we would never forget them, and could apply them to just about...

    ignition timing crazy

Another thing you will want to verify since the engine does have unknown miles on it is verify the timing mark on the harmonic balancer has not moved. Being it's a 2 piece balancer, sometimes the rubber does slip from age and throws the timing mark off. Find a way to get #1 piston to TDC...
