Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Definitely positive pressure. I know if it had a vacuum the fuel pump would have trouble.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Yes, Prescott. When I first moved there in 1983, Prescott was an old indian word that meant "You gotta go to Phoenix, because we ain't got it here" 26 years later, the growth and a few other issues told me it was time to move out, so now it's a 60 mile drive each way to get there to shop.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Okay kids, here's the official update- It was 94 degrees today, and I had to make the 120+ mile round trip to the big city. Not a single hiccup, never tried to vapor lock even once. I did notice the driver's side tank needs attention in the vent department, it has pressure when the gas cap is...

    Clutch finger spacing

I don't know about any specific distance would be for the fingers, but a number that pops into my head from MANY decades ago says the travel is usually about .060 inch to release pressure on the disc. I'm sure somebody will come along and either verify that, or correct it.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

A carport for shade would be a huge improvement, but as things stand now, on my low fixed income, I am lucky just to keep the house/land/trucks going and have food and other basic necessities. Any construction projects would be a luxury not in the budget, so i deal with working in the elements.

Damn space aliens are messing with me again !!!!

I can relate to that theory, but he REALLY needs his truck running ................

Damn space aliens are messing with me again !!!!

I think the worst part of this is, it will cost me 40 dollars in gas and 5 hours of total travel time to get a 10 dollar part.

Damn space aliens are messing with me again !!!!

No dog here, and the fuzzy alarm clock passed away last Halloween after 14 wonderful years of meows and service. You would think I am used to weird things happening here, but there's just too many unexplainable things that have happened over the years.

Damn space aliens are messing with me again !!!!

Trying to reassemble Crazyark's 350, we put ALL the parts in one spot together as we disassembled things. Now the oil pump intermediate shaft is missing, nowhere to be found, and I flat refuse to use one with a nylon bushing. I want that hardened all steel one !!! We have torn this place upside...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

The truck hasn't been driven since the trip for water a few days ago. I need to pick up a package in town Monday and need more water, so I will drive it again to see how it behaves (or not). Plus I am trying to find the ambition to yank the seat out to make replacing the interior wiring harness...

    Headlights go on and off

I have found that chemical additives RARELY do what they are supposed to, and often cause unwanted side effects. Stop leaks MIGHT plug a leak, but they also plug small orifices and passageways that fluid needs to travel through. As my auto shop teacher would preach, a chemical additive cannot...

    Headlights go on and off

If you add a can of Barr's leak to try and stop the leak, be prepared to replace your heater core as it will get plugged up. Ask me how I know, the PO of my truck used it to try and stop a leak. Cost me money and a lot of extra work.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I could if the truck wasn't in the way of my view. Maybe pull the engine out to do the inspection. But if I am going to pull the engine out, the oil pan comes off to yank the timing cover and the cam will get replaced.

    Pulling Steering Wheel

I would suggest that ANY puller one uses, spend a couple bucks and buy grade 8 bolts. Have seen too many grade 5's bend or break off when trying to use the puller. And ALWAYS oil the threads of the bolts and puller shaft.

    Pulling Steering Wheel

And if you buy a decent puller, it also doubles as a harmonic balancer puller. About 20 years ago, a friend quit being a mechanic for a living and gave me his Snap-on puller, it pulls harmonic balancers real nicely, and a steering wheel isn't even a challenge for it.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I have several spare pump rods, I will build up some weld on the end of one, polish it smooth, and see if that works. It did pump adequate gas when it was installed before with the ticking, so I would think the base circle portion of the cam lobe could be worn down, but the eccentric part to...

    Pulling Steering Wheel

If that works, and you need to go any farther into the steering column, you will need a lock plate depressing tool to get the circlip off to remove the lock plate. The lockplate depressing tool will come with two adaptors, SAE and Metric so it will thread onto any steering shaft.

    Pulling Steering Wheel

You could try backing off the nut just until it's flush with the end of the threads, pull on the wheel with two hands, 180 degrees apart, and have a helper hit the shaft/nut with a SOFT hammer such as brass or copper. A steel hammer can do some bad damage to the threads and shaft.

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I do have an inductive meter, but I have never had any luck getting accurate readings with it. Got it to see if the house solar panels were putting out the correct amount of power, but it acted like there was too much space between the wire and the clamp and it wasn't sensing enough energy to...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

Here's the update ya'all have been waiting for. By the time the truck got into town, the fuel pump was warm, but it didn't vapor lock. Driving home, it ran good all the way with no issues, but the pump was HOT. Evidently the return from the new fuel filter isn't enough liquid to cool the...

Any such thing as a good Service Manual?

Back in the old days (60's and 70's) those were decent shop manuals. No clue how they are in modern times ...............

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I picked up the filter in town today, UPS actually delivered it on time. Installed it this evening, the see through filter at the carb filled with gas instantly upon engine start, and no leaks anywhere. Tomorrow will be another scorcher of a day, and we need to make a trip in for water, so...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

To Grit Dog: I ran 12 gauge wire from the fuseblock, so it'll handle the voltage quite well. Mike: I believe the return line will flow enough cool gas through the electric pump to keep it cool enough to keep working. I have only had one electric pump in my life that caused issues, it was a Mr...

Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

I don't know what kind of oil the previous owner ran in the engine, so I will say it's definitely possible that could be a contributing factor in my dilemna.

How long ago did you get the cam and install it? Scuttlebutt going around in the camshaft world says that Summit has had more than their share of bad batches of cams.
