    Lost an ignition module. Why?

Heat is the biggest enemy of the modules. Without adequate heat sink compound, a module will heat up very quickly, and could fail or work less than 100%.

    Lost an ignition module. Why?

Just make sure when you replace it, apply a healthy coating of white heat sink compound on the metal section where it contacts the dizzy. Don't install dry, or coat with anything else.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

First off, I want to thank all of you for the input and information regarding the towing situation and my truck. I can't find any holes in my frame from where a correct mount would have been. And there won't be any towing done now since the whole situation changed regarding buying the camper I...

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

Thanks to everybody for your input and suggestions. The trailer I am looking at is an older model (1996) but is in pristine condition. Maybe I should look for a regular tow behind instead.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

I have never noticed any holes in the frame below the holes in the bed, but maybe today I shall take a closer look. I definitely would prefer frame mount, especially with a rig at 7,000 lbs or more.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

Another concern I have is tongue weight. This camper looks like they put the wheels as far back as they could, which translates to tongue weight increase and larger diameter turning radius.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

To me, that appears to bolt to the top of the bed rails. Thanks for posting that, something to consider. Damn, I miss having access to welding and machine shop and being able to do it.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

The seller is including a 5th wheel hitch that uses the receiver hitch as a mount. I know I am not going to trust that idea knowing the laws of physics involved and the weird shit that always happens around here.

Tow a 5th wheel camper trailer with bed mount hitch ?

I'm thinking about buying a 5th wheel camper, about 29 ft long and 6700 lbs. My 83 C20 already has holes in the bed from a previous owner's hitch, but I have no idea how much weight I should pull without doing the holes in the frame with grade 8 or better bolts routine and deal with the work...

    Testing the horn circuit

My thanks to you, Raider L, for that detailed dissertation of educational knowledge. Maybe now I will be able to fix my interior light gremlins. Only been putting it off for two years now.

    Testing the horn circuit

Congrats of getting the horn working, very important item to have to deal with the idiots on the road. I don't want to sound stupid, but I need to track down horn problems on both my squares, and having old man brain fade isn't helping any. Can somebody please post a pic of the horn relay in...

What have you done to your square lately??

Thanks for the mention and thinking of me, I'm still alive and kicking but who knows for how long. And still using my squares as work trucks, in fact, I am hauling a huge load of trash to the dump today (first of two loads) in an effort to clean up my property so the executor of my will doesn't...

Q-jet suddenly running WAY too rich, choke is open, should I .......

I will find out tomorrow how it does under load, have to climb a 6% grade at 75 mph for 5 miles. If I can't maintain at least 70 going up that hill, something is wrong.

Q-jet suddenly running WAY too rich, choke is open, should I .......

The q-jet has been running fine since I rebuilt it a few years ago. I might blame its issues on the rough roads I live on, or the space aliens messing with me (tough choice to make). But, I am at the point in my life where failing health causes me to not do anything mechanical unless it's an...

Q-jet suddenly running WAY too rich, choke is open, should I .......

It's been doing great up till now, then it suddenly went to crap. I can build them, but I hate doing it. I was tired of having to depend on an undependable electric choke screwing me up, and despite my plans to invent a manual choke conversion for the Q-jet since none exist, I now have a manual...

Q-jet suddenly running WAY too rich, choke is open, should I .......

As the title says, the Q-jet is suddenly running WAY too rich for no apparent reason. The choke is fully open. I am tired of messing with carburetors, so should I shoot the Q-jet and install the Edelbrock 1405 I have rebuilt and sitting on my shelf ?

Testing used spark plug wires to see if they are good....

Cheap enough for some, but when it costs me 50 bucks in gas to get to the parts store and home, then the better part of another 50 dollar bill to buy wires .............nope.

Testing used spark plug wires to see if they are good....

Is there a specific range of ohms/ft I am looking for ?

Testing used spark plug wires to see if they are good....

I will probably end up feeling stupid when i read the responses, but is there an easy way to test the modern silicone spark plug wires to see if they are still usable? I remember the old days when we had copper core wires and an ohmmeter test would show continuity (we also had horrible static in...

another mysterious, 30 year old truck noise thread LOL

If it was either of my trucks, I would blame the space aliens as they mess with me all the time here.

Space aliens and lighting issue ...... WTF ????

As much as I love how the truck runs, drives, stops and handles, If I can't fix it so it can be used after dark, I will either sell the truck and let somebody else deal with it, or I will part or scrap it out.

Space aliens and lighting issue ...... WTF ????

Not too long ago, I got a wiring harness from a fellow member, fuseblock and interior wiring, all pristine condition. The install went fine and everything worked. Now this happens, I am suspecting the engine compartment side of the fuseblock has failed causing problems.
