    R-12 refridgerant to 134

there is another part of this whole AC thing that most don't address and that's insulation. once the floor pan heats up from the driveline and exhaust, it's that much more load on the AC. lizzard skin underneath and dynamat inside go a long way to keep the heat out as well as quieting the cab. i...

What to do? What to do?

if you replace a 400 with a 350 you will wonder what happened to the torque! #2 for me. my '72 k5 has a mild 406sb and easily out torques my .60 over 350 (360) in my '81c10. both have the same rv style cam

Is this the engine?!? Did I find the one?

i would not use mobil 1 or any other modern oil synthetic or regular without using an additive designed for flat tappets. there are oils on the market designed for flat tappets but they come with a hefty price tag. my engine builder recommends rotella. i see rotella now comes in a formula for...

    Break-in oil

i'm with shift pro, rotella 15-40 with break in lube. 2,000rpm or so for 20-30 min. i usually drive 'em a few miles before dumping the oil. if its a flat tappet cam, you will need to use an additive with the rotella. i use lucas but they all do the same thing

Extremely new to the concept of locking hubs

i would not wait for the auto hubs to fail. take the time to disassemble them, clean everything , properly lube everything, and put it back together. cost of a little solvent and grease and maybe 2 or 3 hours labor is time and money well spent.

Tight engine. Loosing my mind troubleshooting.

now that you have hammered on the balancer, make sure the center hole where the crank pulley centers is not peened over otherwise the pulley will not sit flat on the balancer. i was throwing belts at 5krpm and finally found the problem when i replaced the crank pulley. it was peened over by PO.

    lowering my 1987 silverado

if you want to keep it level do 2" coils up front and 2" drop shackles plus 2" drop forward spring mounts for the rear. i did the forward spring mounts without removing the gas tank but mine is a short step with a 16gal. tank.and i had to sawzall the stock mount apart to access the front rivets...

    K5 easy top removal

i'm not a big fan of them but maybe a soft top for the summer and the fiberglass top in winter. i can take the top off of my '72 k5 with my engine hoist by myself but that doesn't help when camping. i like the idea of a hitch mounted lift

    ISO: This piece

I'll make one last comment then step away. 82Diesel wasn't buying new old stock (original GM) metal for fit but longevity. my POV is that if you don't protect the metal properly after install, it makes little difference where the metal came from. I've done 3 jobs with LMC replacement metal. all...

    ISO: This piece

hey shiftpro i hear you, but the suggestion is that nos metal is better and will last longer than offshore metal. i'm in PA and the rust issues are real here too. my point was that with the proper protection from the elements, the offshore metal is just as good. i'm not telling anyone how to...

    ISO: This piece

i have to take issue with your point of view. the older metal was not better. new vehicles have way more corrosion protection than your '82. if you are going to weld in new rockers and not put rust protection in that void (think Ziebart or an Eastwood product) its going to corrode. if your...
