    ISO: This piece

if you can weld and fab, that bracket doesnt look like a big deal to build. why are you spending all of your $ on nos sheet metal?

    Brake lights always on

i would start with the accelerator pump in the carb.

    What needs to be done?

my '81 short step came with a Lund visor, i like the look. you have a nice clean truck now, maybe spend some $ on the interior. wheel, gauges, seats, etc.

    C10 weight?

throw some scrap steel or cast in it and take a run to the scrap yard. they will weigh your truck before and after.then there is no guessing.

Is the "body shop" tryna rob me

i know Brothers offers a simple fool proof kit to shorten frames for '67 - '72, i don't know about squares. as for the body work, it's not rocket science and i'm sure you can do it yourself. if you don't weld now, buy a mig and learn. take a class if necessary but when you are done you will have...

    Motor Dies While Driving

i couldn't believe this post when i read it because my fresh frame on resto on my '81 c 10 360/th350 is doing the exact thing!it feels like it is running out of gas and will limp along at just off idle but will not take throttle. any input is welcome. sorry to barge in on this post but i could...

What is everyone's go to for converting rusty frames nice looking frames

whatever product you decide on make sure you wear a tyvec suit and disposable gloves. i will tell you that when you are laying on the floor painting upside down the product will run right down your arm. use tape where the sleeve meets the glove. also tarp your garage floor unless you don't care...

    50W in a 454?

one other thing comes to mind, maybe the engine is a user and the 50w is in there to slow down the consumption.

    50W in a 454?

i run the rotella 15-40 per my engine builders recomendation and add zddp for the flat tappet cam. 50w seems a little thick especially for cold start up

What is everyone's go to for converting rusty frames nice looking frames

Eastwood rust encapsulater works well. spray lays down better than brush but you are not building a show truck and with a lot of time and patience you will end up with a nice job.

US General Tool Carts, Tool Chests, Tool Cabinets

i have a craftsman stack and a US General 42" rolling drawer cabinet. the harbor freight has a nice quality feel to it. Car Craft magazine tested tool boxes about 3 years ago and gave US General high marks. why spend more unless you make your living out of the box or you have some phobia that...

    400 SBC vs 454 BBC

i disagree with GMFORLIFE. consider a 400 a big block due to displacement and put a big block radiator on it and no worries. don't ask it to do more than it was designed to do and it will last forever. been driving 400's since 1971 and have never had an issue and have never heard of one that...

    400 SBC vs 454 BBC

my 406 cost me $1800 for a professional rebuild. runs like a top. no issues at all. it all depends on your wallet.

    LMC floor panels

they are replacement pans of the same gauge as original. butt weld or flange and fit over the lip. i have used their replacement parts several times with no issues. expect to do some fabrication here and there

    Cowl/Firewall/Floorboard rust

maybe buy a better welder. is this your first build? through the years i always relied on someone to weld after i had done the tedious work of cutting and fitting the new metal in. then about 10 years ago i bought a miller 140 auto set, great move. easy to learn mig and you don't have to rely or...

    How to clean gas tanks

cleaned and painted my tank on my '81 c10 short step. about a month after filling and starting it the tank started leaking. a little over $100 @ LMC truck. probably less from rock auto. money well spent!

Firewall cleanup & paint prep, any tips?

dont forget to reseal the wiper well if you want to have your firewall redo last. there is only a swipe of seam sealer and paint preventing water from getting to that spot welded seam. i use 2 coats of bed liner in that area when i re do them.
